  1. Just to add, I guess any scientific investigation into that would be difficult as the chances of a top getting infected are much lower to start with. And the small sample 😃
  2. Does it make a difference if you’re top or bottom? I remember reading that event-based works because with the initial double dose your arse absorbs the medication quickly. If your risk is from your dick, would that work equally well? In fact (I think) event-based was only recommended for gay men rather than straight sex. For a top-only gay man, the exposure to risk isn’t too different from that of a straight man. I would rather take it event-based, but as I’m only ever top Im not so confident it would offer protection. Apart from issues with being able to plan.
  3. You may want to check this out for a laugh. Unbelievably the residential development they built on the site has kept the name. The developers must be unaware of its history - I can’t believe they would knowingly want to be associated with it. [think before following links] https://www.buildington.co.uk/london-se1/131-grange-road/the-fort/id/6751
  4. I messed up the edit above, but was arguing with leatherpunk16’s claim that UTIs can be passed on.
  5. Is that true? I understand these UTI come from bacteria that are naturally found in the arse. If you catch one as a top, it’s not because the bottom had something. So equally I’m not sure you can pass it on to another bottom. Similarly, cystitis in women is not transmissible. The confusion might be because the term UTI is rather generic and may be also used for STDs that it hasn’t been possible to diagnose. But that’s not what my original post was about.
  6. Interesting conversation. I agree with the sentiment. But in talking of our practical plans, aren't we in danger of projecting things from our experience with HIV? For example, that glory hole picture. I can see why you'd think it's safer and indeed I've seen guys advertising their glory holes on safety grounds. But as the top, how many other guys have used the hole before you, and snorted all over that board? Unlike HIV, this thing spreads outside of direct sexual interaction with another person as well. Also, restricting to a few buddies seems reasonable. But that doesn't take into account the non-sexual contact these guys have with other people. An angelic near-monogamous guy might be high-risk if he works say at border control or an old people's home. By bringing him into your restricted set of fuckbuddies, you bring in all his exposure as well, which is probably more than that you'd get from a promiscuous guy who works from home.
  7. I'm hearing that quite a lot from guys here in the UK so it definitely looks real. Poppers in the UK tend to be isopropyl-based, because previous isobutyl-based formulations were found to have a relatively weak link to cancer. However isopropyl has these eye-related complications (maculopathy) which as Frbtnbtm said, can cause permanent damage. And it's not rare, so watch out. I buy mine online from Europe-based websites, usually go for amyl-based or isobutyl.
  8. Wondering if this is a common issue? In days/weeks after fucking guys bare, I have had what I thought was a STD, burning sensation while pissing, discharge etc. STD tests didn't show up anything other than confirm inflammation, so clinics were reluctant to give antibiotics, and I have been left to sort it out by myself. This has happened a few times, in fact out of line with the frequency of my bare fucking, which is moderate. Only once I was prescribed nitrofurantoin, which is used for cystitis in women, and it worked very quickly. The next time it happened I got myself an over-the-counter cystitis treatment (again for women) and it worked too. That makes me think what I am getting are urinary tract infections, not STDs. It wouldn't be absurd, fucking guys up the arse. However there is very little routine support for UTIs in men, for example you can't buy nitrofurantoin from the UK online pharmacies - only women can. Of course you could pretend to be a woman, but obtaining medication under false pretences is technically punishable by law. Doctors also freak out at male UTIs as they can be indicators of other problems like prostate etc so it's a messy thing to deal with. Have other tops had this issue?
