Hot bath houses and other gay venues. Great night life. I love the windy city and have found my home. I've lived all over the US and for me, Chicago is where it's at. The rent is affordable and so are groceries etc. Studios can be found in nice neighborhoods for $600. Nice 1 bedrooms with full amenities for $800+. Also there is a very well established network of gay doctors that are great at treating the many ailments unique to the gay community. If you move soon, you can even get here in time to help us kick-off legal medicinal pot on Jan 1. I always tell every gay man I meet, you owe it to yourself to live in Chicago for at least awhile to experience all this beautiful, romantic, piggish city has to offer. I've lived in the south and couldn't wait to leave. Winters in Chicago are actually fairly mild with occasional cold weather. Minnesota is cold, I've lived there. Born and raised there. The best places to live in this order, Northern California, but within an hour or 2 of San Francisco. St. Petersburg, Florida. They have all the services (GREAT services) and its an incredible community of gay people! Small enough to know most, big enough to keep it new and relevant! Chicago, only third on my list because although liberal and has a great gay community with lots to do, I have not heard great things about the services overall there. Especially for those who end up suffering from some of the more severe side effects of having HIV such as CMV. Washington D.C. (more gay friendly than poz friendly) Seattle Washington New Orleans, if you have a car because public transit is still not up to par IMO. BUT its very affordable and there are good services. Plus if you are inclined to get active and volunteer there is still room on the gay A-List! lol! Lastly, if you can tolerate cold and bitchyness Boston MA is a great place to live, and close to 2 of the countries best coastal gay communities! My only comments would be that its really a big area and is sometimes similar to Southern Cali in terms of being image conscious. Not that, that is a bad thing! SF actually dropped to 3rd place. I've been in Ft Lauderdale going on 3 years after NYC for EVER. I LOVE IT HERE. The sense of community, gay community is great. There is also a strong POZ support and (if it interests you) a large active GAY RECOVERY community mixed in. In some aspects, being positive isn't spoken of much, but BB is everywhere, mostly a "don't ask, don't tell" mindset.
