Decision is made to go on PrEP

Hey guys...

I am a great fan of this site and enjoy both the fantasy and reality of what goes on here. I am neg but have finally admitted to myself I am a bareback slut. I only watch bb porn, often don't hit up guys on MH and A4A who put "safe sex only" and cruise BBRT all the time. I knowingly have let poz guys fuck me bare, fuck guys all the time without condoms, and even let myself continue to fuck my new boyfriend last night knowing the condom broke when I pushed inside him. I am the perfect candidate for PrEP. So today, I saw my doctor - who is relatively cool but hadn't heard of PrEP (I know!!!).

He was very supportive of my decision based on what I told him and some of the literature I brought for him to read. So the prescription is into my provider (ret. mil so let's see what Express Scripts says...) and I now wait for the HIV test to return. I took an OraQuik test last week and am neg. I am happy to have made the decision to do this. I just wonder if I become more slutty or if the constant reminder every day when I take my Truvada will make me think more about my actions. Stand by for me. Thanks for all the info you guys have provided.

Glad to see another guy on it. word of advice. Get a pill box, so you can see if you took it or not. Adherence is VERY important for optimal protection. That means everyday at close to the same time.

Ive been on it for about six months now, and have had no issues. Some people get a headache when they first start it. Try and work through that because it almost always goes away as your body gets used to the medication. I can say for me, its one of the best things I've done. When having sex before, I was always worried and scared going into my next test. Now I'm not.

Awesome news and you have all the support from people here. Just make sure you are taking it every day very specially the days preceding sexual activity, if you can predict that. I for one have become slightly sluttier since I'm on Truvada but not much. I was very unsafe before and hated myself for it but it was just very difficult for me to have sex with condoms. Also I've noticed that in a way Truvada has made me safer because now I realize how risky raw sex without PrEP is. It's a lot more present in my head and the few breaks I've taken from it I've been pretty consistent about not barebacking. Please share your experiences here with us as you move along.

So an update... tested neg again and my pharmacy said the meds are on the way. Hopefully by next weekend (in LA if anyone wants to hook up) I will be ready to take it. Anyone know how long it takes before one is dosed with Truvad??... you know ready to take loads?? Thanks.

Current official recommendation is to take Truvada for 7 days before considering yourself fully protected. I've heard two weeks from other sources but Bob Grant, the guy who has been responsible for iPrEX and probably one of the people in the world that knows more about PrEP talks about 7 days so that seems safe.

If you ever want to stop they talk about 4 weeks after last sexual interaction
