rawfuckr Posted March 21, 2014 Report Share Posted March 21, 2014 I didn't see this argument in this thread, but in the USA the insurance companies springing the $14k/year for PrEP can actually make financial sense. If there is enough good triaging of who is getting PrEP, specially giving it to those who are really at risk, the folks getting fucked raw and taking loads, being on PrEP for those folks and averting infections should beat a lifetime of HIV treatment, whose meds will be more costly, will have to be taken for life and you have to add all the doctor and testing and side health issues that come with being poz. Take into consideration that PrEP doesn't have to be taken forever, and people can take breaks therefore the cost is not strictkly $14K/year. Also with the new PrEP options in the horizon and Truvada PrEP becoming generic in just a few years it does make sense for them to cover it.
