NO, the WHO did NOT drop the condom part.

You should really examine the facts before simply making assumptions.

Maybe you should read the statement and the clarification more closely…

“The recommendation states that PrEP should be considered as an additional choice for preventing HIV infection alongside and together with the use of condoms and other prevention options,” WHO said in a statement to BuzzFeed explaining the recommendation. “Essentially, this is about choice — in the same way that WHO recommends different contraception options for women WHO wants to support offering gay men the full range of prevention options to suit their circumstances and not exclude any options that are evidenced based.”

"Additional choice", "full range of options" - That makes it completely clear that they're recommending that they see PrEP as an alternative to condoms - or it can be used in conjunction with condoms for even greater efficacy. The comparison with birth control is right on target - Yes, you could take multiple forms of birth control, but typically one is more than sufficient.

It strikes me like maybe the CDC, WHO, etc. are including condoms as a cover-their-ass. It can be a tough sell to the public to endorse an expensive medicine just to allow gays to fuck without consequence. Furthermore, I"d imagine the condom part is more about the other STIs that are out there such as syphilis.

It must feel good to be completely ignorant and having done absolutely no research on the medication you're endorsing.

Wow.

Keep believing that and watch HIV rates skyrocket in the next 5 years.

He's been banned for a few days for this comment. It is refuted by recent scientific studies that clearly show that guys on PrEP do not have riskier sex (on average). The rates of syphilis (an indicator of bareback sex) are identical to guys who don't take PrEP. And studies are confirming the previous theories that PrEP is at least as effective as condoms at preventing HIV.

Since his comment was wrong on many levels and only served to promote fear, uncertainty and doubt - he was banned.
