LKMike
So does anyone know how being on PrEP with the associated bone density loss, will affect healing from a fractured bone? i have been on and off PrEP for over 2 years now and recently broke 2 ribs. Seems they are taking a while to knit, and i re-cracked one this weekend after 2 weeks. Just wondered if being on PrEP would have an effect. BarebackFan
I've not read anything about increased chance of breaking bones. If it's a thing, there's nothing I've seen about it. I have borderline hypercalcemia, so the doc wanted me to do a bone density test before I started PrEP. We did another bone density test later one and there was no change. He's not concerned about me at this point. Good luck on your recovery.
makingwords
I personally haven't experienced it, but loss of bone density is one of the more common side effects of Truvada. They say you should be tested every 6 months when you get your PrEP prescription renewed.
