Did you feel pretty sick at that (Kaposi's Sarcoma) time?

To be honest, no.  I had been doing a lot of tanning beds at the time.  I was dancing with my shirt off and a female nurse saw me on the dance floor, and told me I needed to go to my Infectious Disease Specialist Immediately.  The fact I was so tan made it look like it was a result of a lot of anabolic steroids I was doing at the time, and to be honest they were prescribed by my doctor.  When I was at my lowest, with KS and few T-cells, I looked and felt great.

Very interesting topic.  During my chase, I've had 2 guys ask if I was willing to go full blown, and fie from aids.  I won't mention names, but both are or were on this site.

My simple answer was, my focus now is simply to become poz, and I have never even thought of dying of aids. Both felt it was the ultimate reward, however I don't see it that way.  Sew your oats, start a family, be a pig but go on meds before becoming full blown.

I also appreciate seeing comments from at least one guy I've chatted with numerous times here.  Wanted to know about his journey, and got a good glimpse of it here.

I am not poz or HIV+.  A friend who is poz and who was in denial about it until he was tested again-his first test was 'neg' and he figured he was really HIV neg when in reality he was not, diagnosed, and put on meds five years later had AIDS when he had CMV and went blind "temporarily" and somehow regained sight or some vision, even though my friends who are blind said how once you are blind or VI or your vision is damaged you do not regain it.

Are you poz? If you tested neg, are not poz, are not on prep, you should talk to your doctor. Prep is not perfect and can stop working, but if you have a tendency to not use condoms during anal sex it is better than getting pozzed.

I read in your profile how you have Hep C. Focus on treatment for that as it is best that you do not get HIV as well.

Negative here.  I apparently had Hep C when very young.  Its inactive now.  Found in a pre surgery blood test  I wasn't a druggie or sexually active when young.  Only thing I can think of is when young, I put a Rusty pitchfork between my toes. Must look have got Hep that way

What was your viral. Count.

I was lied to and stealthed. Two months after I was pozzed my counts were 1.1 million and cd4 of 169.

The realist in me knew it would happen at some point. and the other part of me says I wish i was still neg cause I was starting to waste away. And it didn’t feel good.

In 2001 it was between 1 and 2 million, I remember I initially was told I had 52 T cells.   When my doctor filled out the disability paperwork my T cells were at 12 on the last lab he submitted to social security.

My Dad took me into the Social Security office I believe the last Friday in June of that year, and I had my first full check on August 3 with partial payments for June and July (For the life of me I can't figure out how why they would give me partial payments but I took them).

To be honest, I felt fine.  But the KS lesions is what helped me qualify so quickly, I was referred to an oncologist immediately and that was the beginning of the journey.

Thank you for asking. I am undetectable and I am compliant to what my doctor tells me to do.  That wasn't always the case, but I grew up and decided to take my health seriously..

Just a side note - I was born and raised in Philadelphia, I went to Cardinal Dougherty High School and eventually the University of Pennsylvania.  So I am very familiar with West Philly!

Feel free to say hello, always nice to talk to someone from my home city.

In my time, you weren't put on meds until full blown aids. Pneumonia, falling out of bed and unable to get up because o2 levels are too low. Feeling your IQ dribbling away and feeling the horror of it.

Been 20 years, remember like yesterday.spent two weeks in hospital. Some priest had even offered last rights one time.

Is there really nothing that can be done?

From what I have read anecdoatally, some guys can't take HIV medication.  It's typically been a combination of their strain being med-resistant, and/or meds that do work would cause severe/fatal allergic reactions.

Deaths from AIDS are way down but people still die from it.  I've wondered how many of those were for reasons you mention or some that just refuse to take or can't afford medications.
