(private message or post) I was educated in Boston so very familiar with all areas inside the 128 corridor. I'm looking for a nice hotel that does not have key card access controls. I think he means hotels with the more modern elevators that require people to scan a room key in order to select the floors with guestrooms. Without that the elevator will only go to common floors. It's becoming more common when hotels renovate because it allows them to skimp on employing security, especially during evenings and overnight hours.
