Silly tops, poppers are for bottoms

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one that gets annoyed at tops that think the answer to not being able to get hard is to take another hit of poppers. I love poppers but I am a bottom and don't need to be hard, but for most guys they are the enemy of a good hard erection. I know there are exceptions, but for the most part if you want to be a good top give the poppers to the bottom and pound his ass. Maybe take a quick hit just before you give him your load.

Also if you are sharing a bottle with a bottom sucking you, give him the bottle first, then you can take it while he is going to town on your cock.

Sorry I just had to get that out.

So true !!  My fav FB does just that... he doesn't touch the poppers and fucks every which way. Sometimes only sometimes he'll take a quick hit right before he blasts his load in me

We were just discussing this recently in another thread. The reason this is true is that poppers act as a vasodilator, causing expansion of the blood vessels. This is thought to increase blood flow to the brain, increasing pressure on the brain and causing a brief sense of euphoria that some seem to feel as lust.

For one or two sniffs, it also acts like quickie Viagra (sildenafil) by allowing more blood to flow to the cock. But unlike Viagra, poppers then have the effect of relaxing soft muscle tissue, such as the tissue that involuntarily tightens to keep the blood in your cock so you can maintain a hardon. That’s why we bottoms like them - they loosen up the soft muscle inside our asses so we can take those fucking weapons of mass destruction some of you are carrying. For cocks, though, not so good: Basically, poppers will let blood flow to your cock, but they’ll let it flow right back out again and there’s not a thing you can do about it until it wears off.

Oh, and by the way, if you use poppers and Viagra at the same time, you can die. Don’t even fuck around with that combo. Seriously. You’re not immune. Oy - I’m talkin’ to you. Yeah, you. The guy reading this. Watch yourself out there.

I top a lot, and I enjoy some popper hits here and there. Usually some to get me piggy, but more for the bottom so he lets me slide my cock in raw. And sometimes, I love a big hit right before I blast my nut. Really brings out a bigger load, as well as some filthy poz talk as I'm jizzing inside his cunt.

While I use poppers to bottom, the rare times that I do top I cannot touch poppers. They make me lose my erection immediately and I can’t get it back. Although when I am jacking off alone, I can use poppers and I stay hard...not sure why that is.

But I agree with the original poster: poppers are mainly for bottoms. I don’t mind a top that takes a hit just before they breed me....as long as they can stay hard.

I have been with two tops who seemed to get hard from poppers. One was just a trick who I never saw again. The other was a fuckbuddy though. He liked to fuck me on my back, and every time I wanted a hit of poppers, he wanted me to give him one. I could feel his cock getting harder inside me when the rush hit.

Other than these two, poppers seem to be a hindrance for most tops. Although like some of you have mentioned, taking a hit right before he cums seems to work.

Great info ErosWired, thanks for posting it.

Poppers, aka amyl/alkyl nitrates, have been around since the 1800's and were used medicinally as an anti anginal.  That's heart pain people with vascular disease get from ischemia, ischemia is a lack of oxygen to tissue (in this case heart tissue), which results in heart pain/angina.  It's similar stuff to the "nitro" people put under their tongue when they think they're having a heart attack (i give this stuff to my patients all the time). It's effects are short acting, 3-5 minutes.  The feeling of euphoria is thought to come from the vasodilation of vessels in the brain (it also leaves some with a headache after). It also dilates the vessels in the penis.  The way it dilates them is through the release of nitric oxide (a naturally occurring chemical that our bodies make and release through the endothelium, tissue that lines all our blood vessels), which causes the smooth muscle around our vasculature to relax, thus opening them up more for blood flow... but the effect is greater on the veins than the arteries. Arteries supply the blood (in this case, to the penis) veins are the blood return (to the heart) system.  So what ends up happening is more blood is getting into the penis, but even more blood is flowing out.  The penis gets erect when there is more blood flowing in than out, it gets "engorged" with blood filing it up and making it hard.

That's the general effect.  Most drugs have general effect, and lots of "side effects." When you read through the side effects of a drug, you'll notice that not all people have the same side effects. Our bodies are all generally the same, but all vary to some degree too, they're very complex.  Poppers are a synthetic copy of a chemical our body already produces, but our body has a much more complex and intricate system of administering it (so to speak).  The endothelium that releases it (nitric oxide) lines our entire vascular system and that system is able to dispense (so to speak) that chemical in specific locations, thus only effecting those locations in of the body. Sniffing poppers introduces the chemical system wide, so the effects are general, but everyones response is going to be a little different in different parts of the body. I.e., 'side effects may vary.'

I'm wondering if these are "teachable moments"?  Maybe you need to gently connect the dots for the soft-dicked popper-using top?  Some guys are just slow on the uptake and may be clueless about how the poppers are affecting their cock (especially if they're fairly new to them).  "Poppers 101: A Comprehensive Introduction" may not be something you can do in the moment to prevent his dick from going limp and if may not save that encounter from going south (literally and figuratively), but if you help him see the light during the post-coital chit-chat it could pay dividends for you (or the next bottom) on the next meet-up with him.  If he mentions/apologizes for/expresses confusion about having lost his hard on, just tell him that it's probably due to the poppers.  They are a bottom's best friend, but tops should anticipate that they may (or will) make them go soft and should just take a hit shortly before cumming.

I hear ya, @lower_bucks_bottom!  Been there myself...

Ultimately, you can't fix "stupid" -- and by "stupid" I mean, "a top who's more interested in experiencing a popper buzz than keeping his dick hard for the enjoyment of you BOTH".

I may have written about this on the earlier ErosWired post, so forgive me.  I remember watching the "top" I'd invited to a gangbang I was hosting, take two hits of poppers after chewing on a cloth of Maximum Impact.  He slid down the sling pole into a heap.  It I hadn't had the sling up, he would have fallen straight over and cracked his head open.  All that--and likely on Viagra as he was 'a gentleman of a certain age...'
