Workout Motivation

I don't hate my body nor do I have an out of control eating problem, but I could benefit from a more regular workout regimen.  My problem is with motivation (surprise surprise).

I'm fine once I actually begin the act of exercising...I actually enjoy it.

But when it comes to finding time to fit exercise into my daily schedule, my brain has a tendency to find ANY way out of exercising on any given day.  It just does.  Laziness and excuses come easy.

But man on the days I can get myself to the starting line and I actually get in a 30-60 minute workout I feel soooooo much better (duh yes i know).

My question for everyone is the obvious and simple 'how do you do it?'

How do you get yourself, daily, to the actual start of your workout?

I just go. The gym is where I have to be at 7am and 5pm. I don't give myself excuses not to go.

As for motivation, at my age, being a muscle daddy is what I have to be if I want to get laid.

Download a fitness app and use it. Tracking your progress reinforces your commitment to the program.

I do it because I enjoy it. That's all the motivation I need. Good luck!

My core workout with a trainer is at 11 Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I pay good money for it.  Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are cardio mornings.  I get ride on those days.  I paid fairly good money for a year-long pass.

What keeps me motivated is preventing a stroke or heart attack.  Plus, I'm seeing results.

Primarily, I  x-train to improve my performance as a runner. Yet I also feel that staying in the shape I am in, is going to allow me to get laid for a lot longer, at my current age.

It took me a long time to consciously understand that i'm what i term a "social exerciser."   When i was a kid i tried running, fail, was bored to tears and had no stamina for it. But i'd play tennis for 8 hours and never get tired of it.  When i got older, i became a martial artist and did it every other day for 25 years.  When i injured my knee doing a jumping axe kick, i went into Bikram yoga (which turned out to be harder than martial arts). i moved to a place that didn't have Bikram, got a bicycle, maybe rode it 10x, a rowing machine, it's gathering dust in my home office.  i realized that if there were other people involved in my regimen, i did it regularly, was like going out to eat with friends, if it was solo, major fail.

This is it exactly.  I have a complicated but effective regime that I just don’t break.  If something gets in the way of a particular session on a particular day, then I’ll make it up the next day or the day after that.  It’s non-negotiable.  If you start finding an excuse to skip one session, then you’ll find an excuse to skip the next, and the next.

My motivation is sex.  Like RangerRick, I find that at my age, I have to look the best I can if I’m to compete with all the younger cumdumps out there.  So far, it’s working, but I can’t take that for granted.

I know this post is old, but thought I would throw in my thoughts in case anyone else wanted to chime in.

I have pics of a goal person that I ask myself, "Would this person want to fuck me given how my body is now?" And I set goal dates (holidays, birthdays, end of year) and imagine what I want to look like on those dates and while I workout all aspects of my body, I tend to concentrate on the key areas. Like my glutes. I particularly love working out my glutes. Got to have the kind of ass that looks good in jeans, and makes men want to have in their hands as they are fucking you from behind! If you can find a buddy to hold you accountable, that's a great motivator as well. Send them a "before pic" and make them a promise that in X days/months, you will send them an even better pic.

I use several motivational things to keep me working out, from the fact I’m diabetic and it helps me keep that in check (my main motivation) to I feel better in general to thinking that the results make tops want to fuck my tight ass, etc. If one does not motivate me one day I think of another. Works for me so far

My primary workout motivation, is to train for Triathlons, I have been doing them for the past 16 years, yet it certainly helps for meeting other men, when your in impeccably good shape.

This is a great question. I've gone back-and-forth with weight and body issues all my life, and here's what I found ultimately worked for me (even though I've fallen out of the habit due to the pandemic, gyms being closed for awhile, etc.)

1. I found a gym that was close to work. In my case, Gold's Gym was literally just down the road from the office. Since I knew I had to be at work every day anyway, this meant I had no excuse to not go to the gym aside from just being lazy - it wasn't a special trip or out of my way, it was somewhere I was going to be regardless, so it didn't matter if I went there a few hours early.

2. Make friends. Cannot stress this enough. Even if not friends, acquaintances, people to keep you accountable if they don't see you for a few days (aside from rest days.) One of the best feelings in the world was when someone who had seen me when I first started working out and losing weight would walk up and say they were proud of my progress or happy to see I hadn't quit.

3. Gym crushes don't hurt. I totally flirted with a few of the guys there, who didn't really mind, even if they were straight. I think my favorite were the twin trainers who were dead ringers for porn star Ryan Driller/Jeremy Bilding. Shame about them being straight, though.

4. Building off number 2, if you can find someone (or more than one) who also wants to go at the same time, you can hold one another accountable.
