I know the whole “no face pic, no reply” doctrine is popular on many apps, but I personally feel the opposite.

I never ask for face pics and prefer when guys don’t send them. It makes it much more thrilling and anonymous. It also prevents disappointment from being catfished(yeah it happens.) I never send back a face pic. I actually look younger than I am so it is nice to see tops pleasantly surprised when I show up. I could tell they expected something else. I agree with you about not wanting face pics. If they are on the profile I'll look but I never ask for them. Face pics do not interest me. I don’t assess a man by his appearance in general, and I certainly don’t discriminate as to whether a man is going to fuck me or not on the basis of his looks (or much of anything else, for that matter) so his face is of no particular significance.

His dick pic is only more significant in that it tells me if I need to prepare myself  for taking something sizable, but I don’t make decisions based on those either.

I'm a top who does put my face pic in my Grindr profile and who rarely replies to people whose profiles lack clear face pics. It's not that I'm unwilling to pump-and-dump on the spur of the moment, or even to take a chance on a blind date. There's little to lose; at worst, one person says no thanks, we both wish each other well, and we head our separate ways.

But what I'm finding lately is that a guy who doesn't include a clear face pic in his profile tends to be living under some kind of constraint, external or self-imposed, that makes for a fraught interaction. Sending a face pic privately, on request, isn't the same as being comfortable showing it publicly.

A digital blindfold option might be a fun addition to apps like Grindr. Cumdumps would select tops based on proximity and maybe on profile characteristics. You'd know that they had face pics on file, and that you could tap to reveal their faces if you wanted to.

I essentially feel the same way. I never have a face pic directly attached to any profiles, and always make it quite clear I prefer fully NSA and anon interactions with as few pics and questions as possible. I will take and send a face pic if it feels like a hookup may be a repeat performance, but I am turned off when I have so much on all my profiles indicating I dont really want to use face pics and someone opens up a conversation with a slew of pictures both NSFW or otherwise, and then ask/demands for a face pic in return.

I always ask for a face pic as I do have one posted. I find it certainly helps add to their credibility and likelihood to meet if they have one. Blank profiles or people who are reluctant to send one just come off as shady.  The real challenge is getting a genuine picture and not one from a few years back.
