Being In Porn - How do guys get in? Is there still a stigma?

I've always wondered how guys get into porn. When I first came out in the 80's there wasn't any internet and there were true porn stars like Jeff Stryker, Chad Douglas, etc., and the thought of getting into porn back then wasn't an option, at least for me. I figured if you did porn you pretty much could kiss any type of non-porn career goodbye. I had one friend in Denver who worked for Falcon and although he only did a couple of movies he was practically famous, at least in Denver where he continued to live after he did porn. Everyone knew he was the 'porn' guy.

In today's internet age it seems that there are tons of guys who obviously have no problem doing porn, but I'm still curious how they get into the business and don't they have any concerns about the effect it will have on any future career path they may take when their porn career is over? How do these guys support themselves once it's all over?

I wish we lived in a society where someone could do porn on the side and still have a day job where no one would care - but I just don't think society is ready for that, at least here in the US.

Does anyone know any porn stars personally? How did they get into the business and what did they do when their porn career ended? I've done a few amateur home made vids that a buddy put on x-tube but they are edited so no one would ever know it was me. But I LOVED being filmed and still do - I just wish there wasn't still a stigma associated with doing porn. Maybe one day I'll win the lotto and can do anything I want and not worry what people think.

Hi,

I know some porn producers and models and the thing to remember is this: "Porn is forever." People will find out and "people" includes your family, friends and co-workers. So if you want to make your life porn, then go for it. I was offered a couple of gigs on porn flicks (Toronto; NYC; Fort Lauderdale) and the advice I got from a well-known producer was to ask yourself what you want out of it. If you want fun with your buddies, then film in your private life and have fun. If you want it to be public and forever, then contact some vid companies and apply. If you are willing (eager?) to go the distance and not too concerned about the impact afterward... the choice is simple. I know a couple of guys who dabbled in porn and the results are mixed. Some guys love it, others had regrets related to family and so forth.

I did a scene many years ago for SX Video. I approached them. Their studios are in San Diego so I called them up, drove over and "auditioned". Needless to say, the scene that I did for them was horrible & the experience was one that I wish to forget.

Years later, I did a few scenes for Forbidden Funk Media/ Blackbreeders.com. The owner/producer hit me up on BBRTS and asked if I'd ever thought about doing porn. I was suspicious, but after checking out the site and the type of videos that FFM produced, I agreed to do it. While my family doesn't know about my videos, a few family members do and a couple of friends know. I've never went into detail with them what happened, but only told them that I enjoyed the experience--I did!

The thing to remember about being in porn is: it's very hard, if not impossible to make a career of it. So you have to have a full-time job, preferably something that gives you a bit of flexibility to take off to go film. The director at FFM was great in that he let you know MONTHS in advance that he was planning to shoot and I had the freedom to commit or pass on filming.

Remember, making porn isn't quite like filming an amateur video at home. It really is work. Directors are professional and expect their models to be also. Porn requires discipline and you're expected to perform at the drop of a dime. The hours are long and one person can totally ruin a days work. The porn industry is heavily saturated with bottom boys that think that all they have to do is show up, half-sober, lay there and BOOM, they get 800 bucks. Chemistry is key and the camera sees everything so you may have to fake it til you make it. I've been lucky in the times that I shot for Blackbreeders, I've been really attracted to the guys that I was paired up with.

Every man's experience in porn is different. My experience at SX was almost enough to make me never want to do it again, but then, working with BK and Forbidden Funk Media made me enjoy everything that I already loved about the porn industry.

want to be in a porn myself, not sure if they would take me or not lol

Find a studio that has guys like you. Figure out if they're near you (most won't pay for travel). Then send a clear pic to them and offer to be in one of their videos.
