I am thoroughly convinced that lighter thieves are the worst kinds of people on the planet.

Old housemate of mine used to constantly do this. Used to pocket every lighter he saw, then deny it. The other housemate and I got so sick of buying lighters, that we snuck into his bedroom one day while he was out. We found over 50 lighters in his bedside drawer.... i'm not kidding! lol
I've met a number of guys over the years who will literally steal anything they can. I don't know them for long, as I don't tolerate that sort of behaviour.
