Dental Question

I recently had my upper right molar extracted. 
 

For those of you who have had at least one tooth removed, did you find that you needed to modify your methods? I’m aware that the top should never feel your teeth, but my mouth doesn’t always open that wide, and I would hate for there to be any damage.
