I read this right before the pandemic, so 2019 maybe. Really cool epistolary story told through reviews of a gay male escort back in 2001. Very transgressive material as is customs for Dennis Cooper, but it’s also surprisingly funny and but for the fact that the book predates BZ by several years I would be excused for thinking Cooper’s book was inspired by BZ.

The TL;DR: A bunch of perverse people who haunt an escort review site exchange stories about a mysterious and elusive young whore named “Brad,” and some of them start looking for him and trying to sort fact from fiction. Or maybe they are looking for him because they want to play out the ultimate fantasy.

The overarching plot is kind of tertiary to the people writing online and their twisted sexual subcultures. If you haven’t read it and you like BZ, were an early fan of TIM videos and barebacking culture and the like, this book is practically written for you.

For decades the only option was to buy a physical copy or get one from a library, but an ebook came out in 2022 and you can get a copy for Kindle for $10.

Anyone read this or something similar in the way of gay transgressive lit?
