The 3% cited is based upon an estimation of conversions where PrEP contact is reported. PrEP contact is different than correct PrEP usage, as it also includes incorrect PrEP usage.

Assuming you got tested negative before you started and 3 months after you started you should be fine if you don’t miss your doses.  If you take your PrEP every day, it gives about 99,9% protection.

In the Netherlands a new research project with PrEP starts soon. They are going to test two forms of taking PrEP and I wonder if anybody has any experience with the second form.

1) Daily PrEp: Every day, with food, 1 tablet Truvada.

2) Intermittent PrEP: Between 24 to 2 hrs before possible exposure, with food, 2 tablets Truvada, after possible exposure 1 tablet Truvada every 24hrs till 48hrs after possible exposure. (I don't know if it's the first pill straight after possible exposure, so 3 after exposure, or 1 after 24 hrs so total 2 pills after exposure)

Since I subscribed for this trial (even though I haven't heard yet if I can participate since there are maximum 370 spots) and the participants can choose themselves which form they choose, I'm really curious if anybody has any experience or thoughts about the 2nd option.

This is from the information leaflet: either 1 pill every day, or two pills 24 up 2 hours before possible exposure and then 1 tablet every 24 hrs till 48 hrs after the risk. I'm not sure if they mean 3 after possible exposure (one straight after the risk, one after 24 hrs and one after 48 hrs) or just one after 24 and one after 48hrs..

I subscribed for this trial but am still waiting for a responce. There is a limited amount of participants so I have to wait and see if I can join in.

They want to try 2 different methods of taking the meds:

1) Take one pill every day

2) Take one pill the day before you have bareback sex and continue with one pill a day till two days after

Participants can choose their own method.

It's the first time I heard of option 2 so if I'm selected I tend to go for option 1. Does anybody have experience with option 2?

I used to go there regularly about a decade ago, back in those days it was blooming. Always busy, especially the Sunday afternoons.. Had quite some fun and threesomes there and I know quite a lot of guys ended up poz when opening up their ass while drunk or stoned (they charged for condoms).
