If you're interested in learning more about HIV2, you should look at this article for clinicians...

http://www.hivguidelines.org/clinical-guidelines/adults/human-immunodeficiency-virus-type-2-hiv-2/?utm_source=Human+Immunodeficiency+Virus+Type+2+%28HIV-2%29&utm_campaign=HIV-2&utm_medium=email

A few important points...

  • HIV2 infection is often misdiagnosed and should be treated differently than (regular) HIV1 infection.
  • HIV2 is more mild than HIV1 and less likely to kill you.
  • HIV2 doesn't respond to ARVs as well as HIV1 and doesn't respond at all to certain classes of ARVs (which is why proper diagnoses is important).
