Do you invite men over to your home when using a phone app or internet? Do you rely on their picture or description? Do you meet them in a public place first? Any tips on how to do this to, hopefully, avoid being robbed, beaten or murdered?

try meeting in a public place if they don't seem trustworthy, say a coffee shop or the local mall.

And for apps, I find none work all that well for hookups, almost all are equal. Grindr, Scruff, Growlr, Jack'd (worse one thanks to the bots), Manhunt, BBRT, and A4A.

I've networked and made more friends on all the apps than I've hooked up with people.

I actually got with a guy from Scruff, met him in public first, that was a great time. I have met a few guys by networking through a local gay group. Looks like meeting somewhere in public first is the best bet and then go from there. Thanks!

Any anon hook up could lead to problems. I have used a4a and craigslist and had some great luck, no problems. Generally, there is some email exchange that gives you a sense if whether its real or not.

I have met guys both with scruff and growlr. But on balance I don't like how those apps automatically limit opportunities. I do much better with in-person meetings than on apps or websites.
