genericuser Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 The term "Truvada Whore" was invented and didn't gain traction (if it ever has) until a magazine Op-ed claimed that it refers to an emerging that HIV-negative men who take Truvada PReP are "whores."* Anyway, some guy started selling #TruvadaWhore t-shirts for HIV- people on PReP to show their pride that they're taking the drug. I have no problem with that but what I do find kind of curious and misleading is why so many known HIV+ porn stars are wearing them. Doesn't really make sense.
Administrators rawTOP Posted July 13, 2014 Administrators Report Posted July 13, 2014 Poz guys take Truvada too… But I agree that wasn't the intention of #TruvadaWhore, and shouldn't it be #TruvadaSlut? Whores get paid for their services, sluts give it away for free…
genericuser Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 Poz guys take Truvada too… But I agree that wasn't the intention of #TruvadaWhore, and shouldn't it be #TruvadaSlut? Whores get paid for their services, sluts give it away for free… Believe me I understand Poz guys take Truvada but the whole context of the shirts was to "empower" guys taking PReP and focused completely on PReP. I think the whole #TruvadaWhore thing is completely manufactured by a smart PR pro...I mean TruvadaWhore wasn't in the lexicon until someone thought 'let's try this to try to raise awareness and sell more pills'... But back to the point and a hypothetical: If you see someone in a #TruvadaWhore t-shirt, your assumption based on ALL the articles about it is that the wearer is HIV- and on PReP. So some cunt who doesn't have the status conversation and hooks up with a guy in a #TruvadaWhore shirt, later learns he's actually poz and uses the dumb criminal transmission of HIV/failure to disclose laws against t-shirt guy and the unfortunately the cunt pressing charges case is made stronger by the universal understanding of what the t-shirt means from every article written about ti. Sure it's a hypothetical but until more States repeal and/or reform their criminal transmission of HIV and failure to disclose status laws, it's better to be smart and honest and avoid a dumb t-shirt that could be used by some cunt to sway a jury.
Poz1956 Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 The #TruvadaWhore shirts are a fund raising gimmick. A guy on PrEP, who works in a gay health clinic started the movement. But yes it was a brilliant marketing move to take take back the word. I can see a couple of reasons for a Poz guy getting one. To support the cause is the first. The second is getting the word out. There's a whole whack of guys who have never heard of Truvada for PrEP. Higher visibility = more conversations = more knowledge. Porn stars are in the spotlight, and idolized. Wearing one just adds to the buzz, and we need more discussion and uptake of PrEP. Poz and wearing it at the tubs, or in a cruisy park - the "health discussions don't happen" venues, would be poor form, and misleading. Let's face it, those hypothetical cunts don't need a fucking T-Shirt to press charges. They'll file a complaint, and often win, with zero facts - just their word against the Poz guy's. There are even cases where the Negg guy didn't call the cops, but a health care worker he talked to started the ball rolling. Rather than bitch about a Poz guy wearing the shirt, bitch to your Governor and representative about getting the laws repealed. It takes pressure to make that happen.
