Mjai4854 Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 I'm currently neg but thinking about getting on prep I'm In the Austin Texas area and seeing if people know Drs or clinics I can go for all the testing needed to see if I am Healthy enough to get on prep and while on prep does it affect drug testing in the work place and does it pop up on hiv testing that's given yearly at my work. I don't want anyone to know I am on prep if I get on it from people I work with but I want to be safe when im on prep thank you
hungryhole82 Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 I'm not from Austin but generally you can go to your primary care doctor or infectious diseases specialist. Specialists know abt PrEP treatment. In order to get on PrEP, you must be HIV negative. So before doctor writes you prescription, he will order some blood work. Does blood work at work mandatory? If you are HIV negative before starting PrEP, then there are good chances that you will remain negative. So far i heard only about one case where guy was on PrEP and became positive. Due to Healthcare privacy act, healthcare professionals can't reveal your medical history to anyone. If testing is not mandatory at work, i would suggest you to skip it.

These tests don't exist outside research settings or very specialized clinics AFAIK. Also HIV tests look for either antibodies to HIV or HIV itself, none of which you are going to have being on PrEP. TL,DR Being on PrEP will NOT show in any work 'drug tests' or in any HIV tests. You are fine 1
