To know the strain of HIV you have is drug-resistant? Do you feel powerful or helpless?

In full candor, I ask because I'm a writer and don't know much about the virus except that it's been largely treatable in the past several years. I'm working on a series of stories about bug-chasing. It interests me because I have that compulsion myself (which is why I'm a member).
