Lately I've been tipping more and more generously because (A) those guys work hard and have to deal with all sorts of shit for likely not a very high wage and (B) I have been curious what benefits might come from doing so.  Usually I do $10, sometimes $20.  Always at the door and then sometimes a  few more bucks if I have to swing by the front desk for anything.  And a buck or two on the bed for room cleaner.  I figure if I'm spending money to go in the first place, I'm already splurging, so why not splurge a little more.  I've found that since doing so:

• Usually bumped up to top of waitlist when rooms are full.
• Have had overtime fee waived (sometimes, not always).

How much do you tip and what benefits has it brought you?
