AirmaxUK Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 When I used to do whitewater kayaking there used to be an issue with bacteria in the water at the whitewater centre on the river Trent in Nottingham because just upstream was a power plant that warmed the water up in the river. The guys that ran it advised us to drink a couple of cans of Diet Coke after being in the water as the acidity suppressed any bacteria ingested. Now in another life, I've used that trick after rimming - I'm not sure if it works against all bugs as I too have occasionally had Gastro Flu after a longer session, but perhaps it helps a bit? 1 1

Close2MyBro Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 I just saw this post but you may want to get tested for giardia. I've had that happen from rimming before and had diarrhea that wouldn't go away and wasn't responsive to Imodium. Ended up in ER about a week later with nerve issues and muscle cramping and was diagnosed with potassium deficiency. I explained the diarrhea to the ER doctor, they treated the potassium deficiency and they took a sample of the diarrhea but it came back negative, he had prescribed me a prescription strength type of immodium and it worked, after the stool firmed up they took another sample and found the giardia in that sample. I was put on Flagyl for 10 days, started feeling better after day two but had to continue for 10 days. After day 8, I started to have side effects from the medication, bad headaches, mild hallucinations, and sour stomach, but they started to go away after I finished the medication. I ended up being lactose-intolerant for about 6 months after treatment, which is a known side effect for some people. If it is giardia, it has to be treated, it only continues to get worse if not treated and can lead to severe nutritional deficiencies.
