Just wondering if there’s a way to search either posts or people by region or country to narrow down posts

You can search members by location if they have filled out the location field in their profile. It's only a text search, not a geospatial one.  If you look for the pull-down menu in the search box, you'll find "Members" there at the end of it. Select that and then fill in the search form appropriately.
