The USA is a police state like Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union or like the USA of the mid-late 70's when people could be regularly targeted by federal and local police or like the USA of the 90's and early 2000's which had secret prisons in Chicago -this last one was run by the Chicago police.

Okay.  This seems to be a federal offense in the Wolf/Smith case because Wolf had sex with a 15 yr old who also crossed state lines (unless Wolf tried to prostitute the 15 yr old).

With the position of the current WH and DOJ, they can wait in NYC and arbitrarily declare a lot of sex with young men in violation of the enticement law.  They could easily target people they want to put in prison or possibly use it to put sex businesses out of business or parties if they mess up, maybe even if they do everything right but the 16 yr olds they use to set people up have seemingly legitimate but fake id's.  And the NJ->NYC fake id thing has been a real issue since basically forever. 

We know for a fact that law enforcement targeted people in the past while forcing a person to comply with their trap attempts (when this happened last in a methodical way, people who were discovered to just be gay alone could then be forced to entrap others, in the military in the 80's and earlier with pawns who were used by local police forces - nowadays if a 16 yr old came up on a drug charge in say NJ, they could be enticed to lure a gay man in NYC into sex and then the police could claim that the person entrapped had originally enticed the 16 yr old because of the fact that they crossed state lines).  The 16 yr olds themselves don't have to know that they are being used to entrap people either. 

This specific law seems to be ready made to help enhance the transformation of the US into a toxic police state and use the power of the state to get rid of gay men.

   This seems targeted and to some extent trumped-up.  If they can't get him on actual child pornography charges then this seems excessive.  Unless of course he did try to get the young man involved in prostitution.  Otherwise the sexual activity detailed so far, while a criminal offense, seems to have been excessively trumped up.  Also this law seems to possibly conflict with the age of consent from the state that the young man was/is resident in.  The intent of this enticement law seems to be to stop trafficking, exploitation and specifically prostitution, although "or any sexual activity for which a criminal offense can be charged" leaves quite a bit of wiggle room to permit prosecutors room for an excessive prosecution.  

Also, when was the last time a female having sex with an underage boy was actually prosecuted?  There have been some but they were invariably women (often teachers) exploiting elementary school kids.  I haven't even heard of a woman having sex with a middle school kid being prosecuted (although perhaps there have been) and certainly not with a high school kid, other than to loose their jobs, unless the hs kid was deemed not mentally competent.  

For example, the infamous case of the child actor JB at age 17 having had sex with a 37 year old actress in a hotel room in CA.  The age of consent for CA is 18.  The actress admitted that she did indeed have sex with JB but this was basically treated like a Hollywood tempest in a teacup.  The then 37 yr old actress was also a leader in the MeToo   group that accused Harvey Weinstein of his abuse.  There was indeed a major financial payment made to JB but nobody was talking about 10 years in prison for the actress.

The initial charging documents emphasized Wolf's possession and alleged online distribution of child pornography (using Telegram), like hundreds of such files.  By child they specifically meant children under 12 ("SMITH possessed sexually explicit images of minors, including images of prepubescent minors and minors who had not attained 12 years of age.")  Some of these files allegedly depict beating and rape of a child around 10 years of age.   These initial charges are truly horrific, if true.

If he is actually on trial currently for statutory rape, then either the two child pornography charges couldn't be supported or they added the charge in order to secure a conviction or they dropped the child pornography charges entirely and just went with the statutory rape charge.  

The age of consent in NY state is 17 years old. and the minor involved was allegedly 15 at the time.  They are either going to throw the book at him because they couldn't sufficiently prove the two child pornography counts (which are horrific if remotely true) or they are going to add those charges in a separate case.

It might have been the case that Wolf/Smith wasn't really aware that the young man was under 17 (even though it is reported that Wolf/Smith said he did know that - so there seems to be some kabuki [as in the Japanese theatrical form] going on here).   This would have been easy enough to assert by his defense lawyer at any rate and would have been probably difficult to challenge.  Perhaps he has been advised to essentially plead guilty to the lesser charge in order to avoid some kind of legal problems that arose with the prosecutor's case?  Incredibly it appears that the child pornography charges only carry a 10 year sentence while the Advocate claims that the statutory rape charge is 10 yrs to life.   Either way, 10 years to life for having engaged in consensual statutory rape seems excessive (although those terms are NOT at all excessive for the child pornography charges [except that life imprisonment is an excessive punishment in modern countries] ).

I don't live in DC anymore but the Green Lantern is supposed to have a dark room area (I have been in the Green Lantern but back then wasn't interested in dark room action, so I don't know for sure).

Then there is the Crew Club which does have a couple of small dark room areas, one of which is pretty dark (or can be).  It used to be an open sling room but it transitioned to a kind of dick sucking area around which people fuck and get fucked.

Aside from those two places there haven't been dark rooms in DC for a long time.

To be honest this can happen at many Gay male mostly places in Germany.  It happened to me once in Cologne at a sometime exclusive club when I was coming out (early 20's) probably because I was dressed like an American that weekend.  This is actually what my friends in Cologne told me at that time.  One friend of mine was a ballet dancer and he told me to go to this particular club.  This wasn't a LGBT club per se but lots of Gay men went there (which just means that it was part of the in scene in Cologne at the time).  I did go back to this club months later, maybe even a year later.  They had lots of the same Gay guys that you'd see in the major Gay clubs but they were more likely to talk to you at this place (a guy who was a Gay twin came up to me and talked to me there, something he didn't do at the main club we three hung out at).  I admit this was now a long time ago but this kind of thing can happen in Germany.

What is the interplay of "fact" and perception here?  Any explanation for why one fact-base might get attention, but another fact-base does not?  

 

The reason one fact base gets attention while another doesn't is simply because in the media one is consuming one is current and the others aren't (for example, I had no idea that in Europe there was a massive measles outbreak, at least on paper.  In fact the outbreak is largely confined to Romania although it is true that across western, southern and northern Europe there have been a small number of measles reported in each country).  

As for diversity, without looking at the statistics I can guarantee that the various people associated with the Roma/Sinti are being disproportionately affected because throughout Europe the Roma/Sinti groups are still actively discriminated against (as are the poor but secondarily).
