There's a method to my madness:

First, I get as aroused and as hard as the skin on my dick will allow. I watch some porn, stroke to some pictures, edging, then massage my dick & sack until I just about can't stand it for much longer. When I am at my absolute hardest, when the blood in my veins has fully engorged my dick, then I measure. From the top, where my dick and pubes meet.

The way I measure the girth is with a tape measure.

Yes, the proper way to measure it is the TOP side ( as you stand and look down ). Place the ruler/inch tape where your cock meets your body ( your pubic bush ) and measure the length to the tip of your cockhead. Use the inch tape to measure the fattest part of your shaft by wrapping it around and reading it. Many guys are tempted to measure the underside of their cock from the ball sack, but that gives a distorted measurement - especially if you push your balls back towards your asshole.
