Are there bars in Europe that have back rooms that are sex clubs?

I was talking to this guy at Slammers in Ft Lauderdale who lives in Europe. I usually don't talk to people unless they approach me and he asked me how the drink system worked there. I told him about how you have to bring your own bottle. I keep a bottle of vodka there, and he was surprised that people drink a little and then drive. When I go I just have like 4 drinks in 6 hours so I"m not even buzzed. He said there is a zero policy in Europe for even one drink.

He also told me that it was expensive here because over there they have bars that you can get into for free and they have dark rooms in the back. I was surprised because in the US the only sex club that I know of in the whole country is Slammers and I know they have one in LA too.

So are there really places in Europe where you can get in for free and fuck around in?

Yes, though normally you pay to get in then redeem a drink with your entry voucher.

That's how it works in many places in Berlin, Gran Canaria, London (though more expensive).

In GC nearly all the bars have darkrooms, others are just plain old sex clubs.

You have clubs where you can pay to get in but then once in you don't have to buy a drink, others have free entry but you have to buy a drink.

As for Germany: Bars and Discos are allowed to have back rooms (officially "beruhigte Gasträume", roughly "calm area for guests"), where patrons can have sex. There is no legal necessity for the establishment to be a "members only" club, i.e.: You don't have to buy a membership to enter. If they charge a fee, it's usually not a membership fee, but rather an entrance fee for a specific event / party.

Possibilities include:

A.) Free entrance, but you are encouraged to buy drinks at the bar (You cannot bring your own bottle anyway).

B.) You have to buy a coupon which can be redeemed in drinks.

C.) Entrance fee plus drinks are extra.

D.) Any combination of b.) and c.), e.g. you have to pay 10€ to get in, but 5€ in drinks are included.

Saunas and adult movie theaters are usually C, bars are often B or D (or even C) when there is a popular party. As there are a number of possibilities, it is HIGHLY recommended to check out the establishment on the web beforehand or ask around, as rules can change.

A club / bar might offer free entrance Mon.-Thur. when there are only a few regulars around, it might even close the back room then. You might have to buy a voucher on Friday and Saturday and on Sunday there's a special theme party, sometimes even with a guest list / not open to the public, where you have to pay some kind of entrance fee.

Nearly any and all gay bars in Berlin, Amsterdam, et al major gay destinations have a sizable and furnished/equipped darkroom at the venue, not a bare walled backroom american style. Not talking about dedicated sex clubs, just gay bars of non-restaurant variety. Some venues will have free entry or entry/1-drink combo charge. But most will have some sort of cover charged regardless of beverages, especially on theme nights or special events/parties. The free entry places usually enjoy a lot of foot traffic to and from the darkroom and are well known with locals and regulars as such. The darkroom won't be open at all times though, but late at night it will be - 11 pm or even 1 am on for a few hours. So what that guy told you is true with only minor comments.

In the States the whole drink-n-drive routine happens due to lack of common public transport coverage. And the encouragingly low alcohol content in domestic brews {my personal opinion, scold it all you want if you will}. Anywhere in Europe I've been it is not the case. I don't know local DWI laws there, but having a car is not even necessary to get yourself reliably around town at ANY hour. And even if you're buzzed, and hoppy beers are so much better at it, you work off that alcohol in the same dark room before hiting the road anyway. I haven't seen many intoxicated cases in public other than hitching a taxi outside a club.

It is really the colonial [uS] level of sex atrocities (as in not gettin any) vs. more civilized and established cruising [EU] that comes to mind as an analogy for darkroom experience and comparison. As if there is any civility in the dark and intrigueing labyrinths of every sleazy grimy spot I've been to, I'd say: give me that any day, and I'll obey any DWI you wanna wind up on top of it.

A note on drinks and public transport:

In most of Europe the legal limit is between 0.0 (i.e. no alcohol at all) and 0.5 (~ one beer or glass of wine). Enforcement depends on the country. E.g. Italy is different from Germany, where driving is a very serious matter (and where 100-120 mph is considered a nice cruising speed on the Autobahn).

Public transport really depends on the city. Metropolises like Berlin or London have a long tradition of public transport, especially subways. You don't need a car there. Second-tier cities might have a tram, but will otherwise rely more on buses, sometimes with appaling timetables during the night, so depending on where you are, a car sometimes is the far more comfortable option.

One thing about Europe: Public transport doesn't carry a social stigma and is usually quite safe indeed.

Theres a few in the UK

Most well known one I know is Boltz in Birmingham. It's a night club but has amazing fantasy backroom they call 'the bullring' which has dungeon, porn cinema, slings, pissplay area and lots of dirty stuff.

The clubs have to be registered as private clubs so that whatever goes on (sex) is legal.

With Boltz, anyone can be a member though; it's free to become a member and free to get in. You just pay for drinks, but there's nothing stopping you just going in there to fuck.

They do have fair few special nights and event that you do have to pay to get in though.

They're updating their websites ATM, but there's photos of their bullring and dungeons on their facebook page
