Milestone: My first leather harness

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for my first leather chest harness. I figured I would post on here for suggestions of where you guys may have purchased yours. Any tips or suggestions on size and style are welcome! I tried to search for the forums to see if there was already a thread for this, but "harness" seems to be mentioned A LOT on this site for some reason so I started a new one. All suggestions, like loads, are welcome! ;)

The biggest issue in getting a good harness is going somewhere with knowledgable staff who will take the time to help you with fit. A place like Mr S in SF is ideal. Not all style harnesses work on every body. Regardless of weight or musculature your nips, armpits, and shoulders are not necessarily in the exact same place and relationship to one another as the next guys. You want a harness that fits but isn't to tight. The straps shouldn't buckle or sag or strain against you either. Especially if your harness will have a cock strap and click ring attachment.

Personally I'm a fan of the "bulldog" style harness which works for my body type. But go try them on and get feedback from knowledgeable staff

I've got a few myself. What I figured along the way is that just a one harness (along with say denim and boots, etc) is basically never enough. If it gets your heart going, and those heads turning, you will want and get more pieces, trimmed and plain, and arm bands, and vest. Thicker or wider, and then another one. You see where it is all going, eh?

But what you really want is quality. Things that will not rip or thread while you're out and about. Trust me - that's why it is out of leather - think of durability, it may be pulled or grabbed by full body weight. A good one will be able to handle it. And it is still riveted or sawed together. And most of things should fit snug or near-tight. I will strongly advise in-person fitting wherever you decide. Do not feel shy, you intend to wear it, and people selling it are not seeing you as a pervert. You do need the right fit, most reputable places can do minor alterations on the spot. AND while in store you can see it on yourself (mirrors) and decide if it is the right/ proportionate design before you separate yourself with your money.

I do have pieces from Mr.S in SF. All of them are well-made. Solid leather quality. Along with other leather pieces that work together most of the time. You will want the same versatility from your gear. It is an investment, do it right. It will serve for many years.

For stores - Mr.S (SF), Mr.B (Berlin and Amsterdam), Spexter (Munich), RoB (Amsterdam, London, Paris, Manchester). By all means it is far from a complete list of quality sources, just some that I know personally.

Congratulations on your first leather harness. With all the leather I have I actually don't own a harness. Kind of funny actually. I agree with what the others are saying here that it's important to get it fitted. My Sir actually does leather and makes harnesses. I've seen him order the leather online or go to leather places and actually make it. It's an amazing process to watch and I've seen him fit guys. Honestly, I still don't know much about harnesses. So far from what I've seen full body harnesses look the best. If that's what they're called. The fact that they go around your balls and cock and from front to back is extremely hot. But probably a basic harness wouldn't hurt either. As I said I know you'd prefer to just buy online but there are some things that are just better to go with in person. What I recommend is trying to find a leather shop around your area even if it's a drive. Make sure it's a good one where the staff are friendly (Or extra friendly) and fit you and get your measurements. If you can do that at least and know all the measurements it would make it easier to find one online in the future as well.

As for style I strongly strongly believe in arm bands. Some men look good in gauntlets too but arm bands are a little better if you go around just wearing a harness and jeans, shorts, or jock. Sometimes less can be more. Some arm bands or wrist bands even have a slit in it to hold money. Best of luck and congratulations.

Best selection that I have found so far is Rough Trade in Silverlake near L.A. Web site roughtradegear.com Other local stores carry harnesses (Stockroom - reasonable but small selection, 665 - can be expensive) but I found what I liked at Rough Trade.

@fuckboy20 - I definitely get where you are coming from with the "better in person" remark. Last thing you want is to find your gear doesn't fit quite right. I just don't know too many places I can go around here to try before I buy. Any tips on sizing?

@LBRaw - Thanks! I will check out their website now and see if something chains me down. I am willing to pay for quality gear, but I don't want to get gouged out... at least not by prices, I want the tops to do that bit!

If you are in Detroit, you might consider a drive to Toronto to go to Northbound Leather. It is one of my favorite stores. you could go shopping then spend the night at Steamworks there. You might first want to check out the leather bar in Detroit and see what people are wearing and what you like. Or check out a few leather porn videos too. (I wear a couple of different harnesses in some of my films!)

Another great store near me is Full Kit here in Provincetown. It is offseason, and the guys at the store could probably give you some advice on sizes if you give your body measurements. And they have free shipping if over $50 (Height, chest, waist, etc...not necessarily cock size - unless your're going for a cock ring too!)

Buying in person can give you the best result, as you can try things on and see how they look.

But online is not impossible.

If you go to the leather bar, you might even ask some guys there if you can try on their harnesses to see how they feel.

Good luck!

:)

Picked up a new one at 665 in W. Hollywood today. Wide straps, buckles on all four lengths and the staff altered the harness to make it fit right at no extra charge. All for about $130. Always have a really good experience with these guys.
