I'm totally in the closet when it comes to my usage of Truvada PrEP.

A year an a half ago I got so much backlash when I was telling people that I just stopped disclosing my Neg+PrEP status. Most people would think I was a total whore, which I sort of am, but without mentioning PrEP they would fuck me raw without problem, while if I brought it up they would call me a 'diseased slut that they wouldn't touch me with a 10 foot pole'.. a dude actually used those words.

Things are changing quickly and I think there is a lot more awareness about PrEP right now, at least in the USA. Maybe I should try to talk peopl about it again. What do you guys do? Do you update your profiles? do you mention your PrEP taking to prospective fuck partners?

I try to talk about it, but reactions haven't changed much.

I'd keep quiet. I intend to not tell a soul when I am on it.

There is a general lack of knowledge and fear of education over these things. Plus, a lot of tops also seem to enjoy the fact that you're taking a 'risk' to take their load. So let them enjoy it, no need to tell them you're protected.

Not too dissimilar from fucking a woman and not knowing if she's on the pill. Personally enjoy blasting my load up her and not knowing if she's protected... and not caring.

I just started PrEP and have been open about it so far with no noticeable problems. Time will tell. I don't think I'd stay attracted to anyone who was super ignorant and judgey about it, or about anything else -- that's usually a big bonerkiller for me anyway. But it'll still suck to have to deal with the prejudice, if people really are that stupid and mean.

But then again, I'm coming from SF where half of my friends are on it anyway. But even my southern, republican parents parents think PrEP is a great idea because they just want me to live long and prosper, and they know that dudes fuck. Where does the prejudice come from?

Where does the prejudice come from?

I think the very essential core of it is a split between those folks who understand the wonders of raw fucking vs those who don't. The folks that have not experienced raw fucking or for whom condoms work ok can't start understanding why anyone would not use condoms and go through the complications of PrEP. For everyone else, the majority I'd say, condoms just suck, and anything that helps to fuck raw in a safer maner without having to put barrier plastics around the sex event its an absolutely plus and welcome.
