BlindRawFucker1 Posted March 26, 2017 Report Posted March 26, 2017 Hi Guys, I'm looking for some info from guys who are on Truvada for PreP, and those on the other HIV medications. From what I've read, none of them should be taken by people who are on seizure medication. Is there anyone out there who has seizures and is on PreP or the HIV+ treatment medications? What did your doctor recommend? Thanks in advance for any help.
Johnny84 Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 i know this from having epilepsy as a kid seizures meds and HIV meds do not mix if someone who is on seizures / epilepsy meds gets HIV then well i don't know what they do but i know seizures epilepsy med CAN NOT be taken with HIV meds
negbtm Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) This is a really interesting question so I went ahead and looked into it. It looks like HIV+ people with seizures can be treated with ARVs and AEDs (antiepileptic drugs) but only in certain combinations as some AEDs weaken ARVs and vice versa, and in a few cases the combination of the two produces extremely toxic effects in the patient. Generally speaking ARV/AED combos require dosage adjustment to maintain the effectiveness of each and minimize overlapping or additive side effects.
