Australian ISP's  recently banned a few sites such as 4chan 8chan and some others after the Zealand mosque shooting, under the guise of "hate speech" etc.   One would assume the UK would be enforcing ISP's to the same thing with porn sites.    Simply changing your IPv6 and IPv4 settings gets around the blocks.  A quick google search will show you how if you aren't computer savvy.

Whether or not it is related, I don't know... but I read that Virgin are migrating their cable modem/routers to a Cloud based management system rather than have built in settings UI that you are in control of. The cynic in me says this is to prevent people working around blocks by changing settings - or even knowing that's what they've done.

Their current Hub 3.0 router software prevents changing the DNS servers in the DHCP configuration, which forces you to use modem mode and an external router. I wonder how long that option will survive?

I heard the the UK is going to go optic also, which is happening in Australia now.  Basically all ISP's use the same transmission lines, all owned by a "government" company, which is likely a way of monitoring and controlling all data

Literally every single pose people do on Instagram these days is a pouty "fuck me" pose anyway. Everything is batfuck insane and riddled with narcissism but the only thing you wanna adjust is make it harder or impossible for a horny teen to get jackoff material (just like me and many other people my age did when the internet was new)

Basically "kids" (i.e. teens) are growing up in a sexualised world. If we take away porn how are they gonna know what that pouting is supposed to lead to?

My understanding is the introduction has been postponed for about 6 months as the UK government failed to notify the EU of the new law as legally required. In the event of the laws eventual introduction a VPN may be the best way to circumvent.

Australia, wow way to go. Ban whole websites just cause one Brievik-wannabe hung out there?

It's not that hard to imagine a world where everything other than a mosque or a Koran will be banned for being "offensive".

It's because so many "Western" governments are run by sheltered geeks, and they keep gullibly doing the bidding of this horrible religion without once thinking about what they are doing. The last time they had a quasi-sentient interlude was about March 1997, if that.

Wow I have been ranting a lot in this thread haven't I? Well things in the UK are really really shit and dull so it's not surprising.

We're about one call-to-prayer away from being Mecca here.

An elected MP called Boris Johnson was on TV the other night being grilled on his anti-Islamic comments by the BBC (a.k.a. Al-Jabeeba) before he's being "allowed" to become Prime Minister. Some sad bint called "Laura Kuenssberg" decides what you are and aren't allowed to say now.

That's a situation we have so why should you be really surprised if my complaint about it starts to "spill into" other political threads.

I hope I don't get compared to "Old man yelling at cloud" by the kind of self-loathing weirdos who say such things despite the fact that ultimately they'd much rather be on the internet quoting/referencing the juggernaut of Western culture "The Simpsons" than going to a Mosque.

Possibly - a very long time. In prior years I've been on TimeWarner Cable ISP subcontractor in NYC area (they've sold out local services to a different company since). Such hardcoded limits to configuration basically work against majority of internet users that are just that - users. The subsequent impact that initially I personally did not suspect was that besides the obvious inflexibility of the Internet interface settings (localized DNS info specifically), the modem was also in "transparent" mode - no protections whatsoever of even a minimal nature to your traffic in and out. And you could have only one IP address, etc, etc. In other words - easily vulnerable.

Several firewalls later I can say that my home network now is much more protected. I have no more roaming network queries from 3rd parties rolling through my leased ISP router and own internal systems just because my ISP had everything wide open. And prior firewall models have shown me that even a commercially-provided hardware is not shut down tight off the factory and additionally has no controls to do so - many holes in system software and vulnerabilities, especially if you keep something running for years and such. And when for a change you can control your own perimeter setup, you can set any DNS config, control any port, log and audit later any failed attempt to gain access or scan and probe your outside ports. Choose a unit with built-in automatic isolation/block feature for such intrusions. It is not a rare feature these days. That is likely beyond this thread.

This probably needs IT skills above average to implement, but you will achieve multiple benefits. Including your own system security and ability to route your own traffic the way you like. I ended with Sophos XG home version - free software. But you do need to make some serious investments elsewhere. Overall solution is far from free. End result IMO - more than enough to do everything I want.

Now ... if your ISP blocks common DNS ports and ACL upstream forwarders (3rd party/Root DNS) on their outside perimeter for anything but their own servers and force internal users to use only their own internal DNS servers - deep doodoo. You can also have a paywall/age-verify barrier added at that spot for certain IP results you are trying to get to. It is not a baseless cyber security-related argument, but you probably would have to educate yourself in basics of routing/firewalls first and only then move on from the ISP. I would not advocate against network security. But electronically speaking - move away nevertheless. Just don't do it with your systems open bare.

Kuensberg hates Brexit because it will restrict her access to degenerates who are hiding in the Calais camps and who'll fuck anything with three holes.

I find it hard to believe she's ever had sex of any kind.

It's easy to say afterwards, that Boris "should have" asked if she'd never had a row with a partner, etc... but I'm sure it's as clear to him as it is to me that trying to reason with creatures such as her is a complete waste of time, and she is simply there to be endured as much as possible.

Brilliant news that the Govt has dropped the proposed and very stupid anti-porn viewing laws.  For those who do not know this has been accomplished in great part by lobbying against these restrictions on personal freedoms by the Adam Smith Institute.

The other thing that defeated it is that emerging technologies such as DNS over HTTPS make it impossible to do what they planned. Once they can't control DNS, they can't block sites very effectively.

BTW, if you use Firefox it's not hard to use DNS over HTTPS. Just go to settings search for "DNS" and then check the box next to DNS over HTTPS. What that does is make it impossible for anyone (other than the DNS provider) to see what sites you're accessing. Prior to DoH the domain name would be sent in clear text over the Internet.
