leatherpunk16
Leatherpunk16 is considering a move to Seattle this summer. Can any local Seattlites help me out with planning? How's the leather scene? What's the job market like? How about affordable housing and other human services? I'm doing research and I'm a little unsure of how to begin.
MattQueen1
I cannot speak to the Leather scene. I can say that the job market is strong here. Amazon is always hiring. The farther you get away from downtown Seattle the less things cost. We have great transit and housing is expensive here.
badjujuboy
There is a good leather scene with some social groups within. As far as the job market goes, it depends on what your looking for. The tech market is good which definitely affects the housing situation. What one considers affordable housing might not be another's version of affordable. There is a definite dichotomy in the city from the citizens up to and including the city council in regards to socialistic views and priorities. What do you mean by Human Services? There are services available to support minorities including LBGTQ. the city is very supportive but, as the country has experienced in the last few years, there are manifestations contrary to this. You could say that Seattle has lived in a bubble to a certain extent.
leatherpunk16
At the moment, I'm a professional musician. I'll be giving that up when I change my home. In twenty years, I've done all I can here, and it's surely not enough to live on, so I don't have to limit myself to exclusively THAT. I'll probably work some unskilled labour job (something retail most likely) until I get settled and find a new career. Human Services generally include state-funded things. I won't have much money to start out, and I may have to live in less-than-adequate conditions until I'm settled. This may include things like housing, healthcare, food stamps, etc. Or maybe I will be fortunate and not have to do those things, but they are for people who need help for a brief period. I don't intend to make it a life-long crutch. So far I've uncovered a good arts scene and definitely gay pride stuff. There's also a Steamworks! As a rising porn actor, they may be glad to have me for events or something. Plenty of extracurricular things to do that might help me find my way. Thanks for the replies, guys.
