Delete blocks of old messages

Is there a way to select blocks of messages to delete?  I was able to select several, but didn't see a way to delete them.  I did see a way to delete all, but only want to delete some for more storage space.

If you're selecting conversations to delete (I find I can only select entire conversations, not individual messages within them), there is a floating delete button that appears in the horizontal center of the full browser window (not just the conversation pane) near the bottom. It will work on one or many. It's in a rather non-intuitive location.
