I recently bumped into the site Chaturbate and checked it out a few times. Sometimes lame sometimes really hot guys on cam.

Yes, all of those observations are accurate.  Some guys use Chaturbate to feed into their Onlyfans/justforfans, some guys just do chaturbate and private shows.  The lovesense plugs are fun, but they aren't as powerful as some porn studios will try to make you think.  You can also send your code to people via an email link and grant them permission to zap you - not only through the chaturbate site.  That can be fun too!)  The tokens don't seem to be that expensive, and you can always buy more (which is what they want you to do).  I had a few favorites on there, but they don't seem to be that active any more.  It's an easy way for someone to live out their exhibitionist/voyeur fantasies.
