Could this be HIV? Please help...

Recommended Posts

Hi, please excuse my bad English in advance.

Exactly ten days ago I had sex with a guy, I blew him, he cum in my mouth and I swallowed. We didn't have anal sex or anything like that.

A few days after that, maybe 3 or 4 days later, I started to feel that my throat hurt, the lymph nodes in my neck were swollen. I didn't have any other symptoms - high fever, body aches, rash, sweating, etc. Today I got a fever and went to the doctor, she said it was a bacterial sore throat and it was really bad, she prescribed me an antibiotic and said if it doesn't get better for 3 days, that I have to take injections.

I'm curious if these symptoms make you think it's HIV infection or a really bad coincidence that I got a sore throat a few days after I had oral sex?

Very unlikely that it's HIV.

Quite possible that it's a bacterial sexually transmitted disease that has made its home in your throat. Oral gonorrhea and oral chlamydia are both known and not at all rare. If the antibiotic doesn't clear it up, you should tell the doctor about the possibility, as then they can test and/or they may want to use different antibiotics.

Both HIV & AIDS are extremely low risk of being transmitted through oral only sex even if you swallow due to the bacteria in ya stomach kills the virus 99% of time however possible you have got an bacterial infection from him antibiotics should clear it up

Very unlikey HIV...Very rare to get it from oral and sero conversion takes longer than a few days after exposure. As already noted get checked for an STD

Bolestan … be good to yourself.  It’s probably not hiv.  But visit your doctor.

If you have a concern about disclosing it was a man (not sure your country), tell doctor it was a woman.

Thanks everyone for the answers. I already feel better after I started taking antibiotics. I assume it's a bacterial sore throat if the antibiotics started working immediately.

"AIDS" is not transmitted. HIV is transmitted; AIDS is the condition resulting from HIV infection after one's body reaches a certain point (T-cells below 200). Typically, progressing from HIV infection to AIDS takes a significant period of time.

You're correct that HIV has a low risk of oral transmission. However, that risk is elevated if you have any cuts, even tiny ones, in your mouth, or poor oral hygiene such that you might have a way in your gums for the virus to enter your system. It's still very uncommon, but it's not something that could be ruled out.

It's remarkably rare to contract HIV through oral sex.  It's remarkably easy to contract a bacterial infection that way, however.  Take your antibiotics and take care of that.  When I first started playing with dudes, I ended up having my tonsils colonized by a persistent staph infection and they had to be removed, and an adult tonsillectomy is NOT fun.    Also, this is a PSA for everyone:  clean your sex toys!
