I had prostate cancer a number of years ago, in my mid-40's.  99% of people have it removed but I wasn't some 80 year old who was done with my equipment, so I opted for radiation instead in the hopes that I'd preserve function.  Even the radiation oncologist told me he would have chosen removal for the certainty of it -- early stage if it's removed while contained, you're cured -- though he thought I'd have a good outcome either way.  Sure enough, I'm fine today and can even ejaculate a little bit.

TBH we didn't talk about it. My Gastro asked if I had questions and that's never where my head was at. You kinda just get used to getting through things and I was preparing myself for the worst. My surgeon did a colectomy and I assumed would cut at the sigmoid but left a lot of room past that.
