ellentonboy Posted Thursday at 03:20 PM Report Posted Thursday at 03:20 PM I had someone travel from out west to Florida, and in our messages he said he would be bringing some kind of HIV testing kit with him, and that would determine if we would play or not. The individual didn't bother to read my profile, which clearly stated I was positive, and when I pointed that out to him - he blocked me. He claimed to be in the medical field, though I question how accurate these "on demand" tests really are. I haven't read through the entire thread, but are there tests that give immediate results that are accurate, and are they available to everyone, not just medical professionals? 1 1

I haven't read through the entire thread, but are there tests that give immediate results that are accurate, and are they available to everyone, not just medical professionals? All tests have some error rate, which is why confirmatory tests are done by medical professionals when initial screening shows a positive result. The only tests available over the counter (that I'm aware of) have a very low false negative rate (meaning if they say negative, you can believe it), but a significant false positive rate (meaning if they say positive, there's a sizable probability that it's an error). Note that, as others have posted above, there is a window of time after infection where these tests will give a false negative. https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/approved-blood-products/information-regarding-oraquick-home-hiv-test The immediacy of results done be medical professionals depends on the lab facilities that are used. If the samples are shipped to a third party lab for testing, it can take anywhere from a day to a week. If the facility where the sample is taken has capability on site, it can take as little as 20-30 minutes, even for a PCR test (the kind that measures viral load and is accurate a much shorter time after infection). 2
Marlin Posted Thursday at 08:46 PM Report Posted Thursday at 08:46 PM You must wait 20-30 minutes when testing Oraquick to confirm the results. when I tested 1 line appeared pretty quickly and there was no sign of the second line which suggests HIV antibodies present. I actually thought I was in the clear and then 20 minutes later the very faintest line appeared. 1

I mean, everyone has the right to be afraid of being HIV+. But don’t then come back and block us when we point your bs out about the obvious inconsistency of wanting to bareback and remain free of the virus. 2

Completely agree ...if you go bareback that's just a risk you take...and if that's not a risk you can accept don't waste peoples time 1

Unless your physical safety is at risk by requesting PrEP, either from government agencies or your family, just sign the papers and get the pill. When I first started on PrEP years ago, the FDA-approved prescribing guidelines basically required one to either be an reckless slut, an intravenous drug addict or to be in a sero-discordant relationship. In the US, doctors are not bound by prescribing guidelines but most follow them. I had a straight doctor at the time and I just lied and said that I had a HIV+ partner. I switched to a gay doctor, so I don't know if straight doctors still follow those guidelines (or even if those guidelines are still in place).

Secondly, PREP is PRE exposure….besides, with such ignorance, I’d bet he would not be aware DoxyPrep even exists. I've lost track of the number of postings on Grindr/Scruff/other platforms where the guy says that his sexual health strategy is PrEP and "Treatment as Prevention." 1
