A lion in sheep's silk robes, but so far, generally I LOVE everything he has said since he has become Pope, against war, admonishing journalists to promote peace rather than whip up hatred, and be cautious with but enter the digital fray. I hope he takes up the challenge to Pope Francis to go to Gaza. Judgement withheld, but hope springing again. I hope I don't get a strike for posting this on this forum...a lightning strike. He is the first pope from the United States, though. Yes, but... If you speak with most people around the globe, they'll refer to those from the United States as "Americans" and people from other countries as from their country of origin (Argentinian, Brazilian, Colombian, Peruvian, etc.). I don't think I've ever been referred to as anything other than American when I've traveled (at least to my face). If I referred to you being from Canada as an "American", I reckon you'd consider that insulting. Yes? 🤣

He's been "in office" a few hours - give him a chance before bashing him. Yes, his name is Pope Leo X1V. It's unfair for anyone to judge him so early. He made an incredible impression on the faithful. He has my support. 1

So uh, good thing he's a boring nonentity who you can just all ignore and let him sit in his palace 500 million miles away. He doesn't have any "charisma" like the last one so you can forget about it. Unless Biden staggering around for 4 years made you feel so ill inside, you prefer to talk about "religious politics" than sex. Edited 12 hours ago by harrysmith25 2

Yes, but... when referring to native Americans or indigenous population of these countries, people are more likely to call them Americans rather than Argentinean, Brazilian, Colombian etc. as these terms are reserved for the whites that formed the original Spanish colonies rather than the native Americans. Native Americans in these colonies where never seen as equal by the Whites and where usually enslaved in one form or the other. Most native Americans on the continent of America do not identify with the colony-states that now claim affiliation to this continent and simply identify with their native Americanness. I will give you this much that while we Canadians do no like being confused with the U.S. and being called "American", we are as American as any other country on this continent. Bit of a stretch though. Like referring to Ketchup as "tomato sauce" or a tomato as a "fruit". Yeah, they are, but you wouldn't put ketchup on pasta or tomatoes in a fruit salad. 🤣 32 minutes ago, brnbk said: while we Canadians do no like being confused with the U.S. and being called "American", we are as American as any other country on this continent. You must be from Alberta! I hear that y'all aren't too happy about the political direction there. 🤣
