Safer Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago I have prep but I don't hookup much so I tend to take my prep inconsistently, it also makes me nauseous sometimes when i take it right after i had a few. Like when I first got it I took it everyday and then stopped for about three weeks, then I took it for two days in a row before hooking up with a guy (I was the top) then I took another dose the next day and the day afterward and stopped again, that was in late March. Then in mid May I took a box test which came back Neg. I haven't hooked up or tested since then but could I still be poz? Quote
Pozzible Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago I’ve gone off PrEP myself because I just haven’t been having much sex. What I’m doing is the 2-1-1 PrEP. As I understand it - and I haven’t talked to my doc about it yet - is that you take 2 Truvada pills 2 hours before sex. And then take one pill 24 hours later and the fourth the next day at the same time. My understanding is that Descovy may not work for 2-1-1. I’m sure there are others on here with a more definitive answer. 1 Quote
Moderators viking8x6 Posted 1 hour ago Moderators Report Posted 1 hour ago With daily PrEP dosing, the side effects often lessen or disappear after taking it regularly for 2-4 weeks, as your body adjusts to it. Descovy is reported to have fewer side effects. If you don't take it consistently, it is possible to seroconvert, and this is a bad idea because that can result in the virus becoming resistant to the drugs in PrEP. It is better to use the "on demand" dosing described by @Pozzible, or to use the new bimonthly injectable PrEP. @Pozzible's explanation of "on demand" PrEP (2-1-1) is exactly right. The first dose must be taken between 2 and 24 hours before sex, and the other 2 doses at 24 hour intervals after that. Quote
Cutedelicategay Posted 3 minutes ago Report Posted 3 minutes ago This is a big discussion within the medical community as told to me by my ID specialist - Prep fatigue. Prep is a medical miracle for the community and a couple of breakthrough cases are based on inconsistent use. A Prep resistant strain would harm a lot of people who religious take Prep to stay negative. TBH it is not a joke to mess around with medication doses. Either take it everyday or on demand or ask for Prep injection. If Truvada is an issue switch to Descvoy. If at all just stop the medicine and take chances but do not ruin it for others who want to take care of their health and the health of others around them. Such discussions really scare a lot of men that I know. Quote
