I too visited a place like this a few times and I'm about your age maybe a bit younger. I don't go there very often because it's kinda far and some other reasons... but I'm also always the youngest over there. I don't know what is wrong with me or what is wrong with the guys (straight guys included) in my country... because everyone flakes 99% of the time. I think they aren't even interested in sex, I don't understand it. The cinema/bath house I go to are mostly foreigners too. It's a bit bizarre because sometimes you find out only after you are done, lol.

The Fair Theater is the only one I know in NYC. I hit that up regularly. Surprising mix of older and younger guys there, though a lot of the older folks actually just sit around in the lobby area and chat. Like a big gay social club with raw sex in the back. 

Kinda a perfect atmosphere, really!

I have gone to the Fair theatre once. Hard to know how long it has catered to the audience that keeps it open. I will say I’m glad the building survives for its historical connection to the Worlds Fair but I think it’s inaccurate to call it the Granddaddy of New York porn theaters. Manhattan was full of them when Gay porn in cinemas began. I’d say the granddaddies were the Adonis and the 55th Street Playhouse. Adonis has been torn down and the 55th St has had the top of the building cut off and the ground floor is now a loading dock for a hotel on 54th. The Fair survives only because of its extreme remoteness and decades of under the table bribes to the authorities. It is sad and filthy with no future while the clock ticks toward its demolition. It’s a matter of hours to get there from Manhattan, one trip to satisfy the historian in me, was enough.

Decades ago, on college, whenever I’d trek to NYC, I’d have so much fun at the Manhattan porn cinemas.  I was only just coming out of the closet so loved the secretive aspect of it all.  

Hilariously, when I first saw cinema houses with “All male movies,” I didn’t make the connection.  I thought they were standard movies but with just male actors—that sounded boring.  And then I figured it out!

Haha! For real. I can manage a tank top--was walking around in one there two weeks back, but it was chilly in there to be sure! But I had on long pants (when they weren't around my ankles). Don't think I could have survived in just a thong! 

Though it wasn't too bad back in the darkroom. That place always gets warm when dudes crowd in. Just bend over against the wall over the radiator, take loads while staying nice and toasty!

I don't remember a little side dark room but I do remember orgies in the basement toilet and people crowded around one of the exit doors (this was fun in the winter when the metal door was COLD) in the front on the right side (the exit door probably faced an alley) off one of the little streets in Chinatown.

The Pilgrim was in the Combat Zone on Washington St around the corner from Playland Cafe. Now that place was a TRIP and a half. A gay bar since the 1930s. Some of the customers in the 1980s had been there opening day.

I have noticed that trend. Shame really. I have fond memories from my early adventurers in adult theaters. 
 

the important thing to remember, by closing these places, those that frequent them will find another outlet. Trick is knowing where to look I suppose.
