How odd, its definitely on the instructions for use with Avanafil (Spedra). Maybe it is just unique to Avanafil - the active ingredient in Viagra/Kamagra and Cialis are different.

I am on PrEP... and just purchased some Spedra (avanafil) online. In the instructions it says not to take with any type of HIV medications, although I can't find the reason why anywhere online. Does anyone here who is on PrEP take any erection pills (Viagra, Spedra, Cialis?) Does anyone know why they cannot be taken with PrEP meds?

Advice in UK is take it for one week and you're protected. Apparently it reaches near 90% efficacy in just 3 days. 2/3 weeks sounds a long time for it to reach proper levels... but if that's the advice... Strange how the advice differs massively though?

This is interesting and I have recently asked the same question in another thread .. I have been advised to keep taking PrEP for THIRTY (30) days after a possible exposure! The advice out there is not particularly accurate for this scenario.

The article mirrors other advice which says 3/4 doses a week, or 3/4 days after starting PrEP for the first time is enough to afford a decent level of protection. However, I was asking about the need to take it for 30 days AFTER a potential BB exposure.... I am looking to stop it sooner because of a holiday but there doesn't seem much advice out there on this particular scenario

Sorry. The context was I am going away on holiday for 3 weeks and don't want to be travelling and taking PrEP. So want to stop it for a 3 week period. Was just asking how long it needs to be taken after your last BB exposure? The consensus seems to be 30 days, but this seems excessive. I compared it to starting PrEP where it says take a full 7 days before considering yourself protected. Although some docs say 3/4 days is enough for adequate protection when starting out. Hence, I am asking if 30 days is indeed excessive, and I could get away with taking less before stopping entirely (after last exposure)

Hi I am about to start PrEP. The instructions are to take it for 7 days before you can consider it effective... and start taking BB. However, I am curious as to how long it should be taken after your last BB exposure, if you want to stop taking it. I have read you should take it for 14 days although some websites say 30 days. Talking to a doctor, he said that the 7 day period before starting BB was over the top and you would get decent protection after just 3 days. So 30 days after exposure to continue taking it sounds excessive. Does anyone know if you can get away with less? I only ask as I a plan to start it asap.. but then am going away on holiday and don't want to keep taking it whilst I am away.. and the 30 day period is right in the middle of my hols!

I'd keep quiet. I intend to not tell a soul when I am on it. There is a general lack of knowledge and fear of education over these things. Plus, a lot of tops also seem to enjoy the fact that you're taking a 'risk' to take their load. So let them enjoy it, no need to tell them you're protected. There are websites that sell generic truvada... and in my experience, the generic medicines are actually just as good quality as the "originals", they are mainly produced by one main large pharma group in India. However, I would be (and am) concerned with taking this type of medication generically with no health support... So have opted not to for now. You do have to think about the risks though.. I love taking it bareback and missed out on the UK trial for truvada... so have looked at buying it generically and taking it. Is the risk of that less than contracting HIV because I bareback? Probably not so its still worth thinking about. I am undecided. -
Hi. I am in the UK and narrowly missed out on getting onto the PROUD trial (whereby PrEP is prescribed for a year as a trial). It was open to 500 men and I registered a bit too late. Does anyone know of where it can be purchased instead? Like, any websites that sell a course? I am looking to get on it... but as the trial is closed, looking to explore other ways of getting my hands on some.
