I think i know what you are trying to achieve with the site. you mentioned you are afraid the site is leaning more towards bug chasing and to be honest, i kinda thought the site was mainly about that. it sure does based on what i see and read. so i guess your fears are true, at least in my opinion it is. sorry if i offended you rawTOP, just being hoonest

First of all, thanks for all the work you do on the site. I think it would be a mistake to try to be all things to all people. As adults, people can make their own decisions on what they want to see. The headings and titles on the site are pretty clear. Once you start making accomodations, what's next?

As the creator, you shouold only make changes that reflect your vision of what you want the site to be. Personally, I like it the way it is.

i get hit up all the time on bbrt and a4a by guys who say 'i've been following you on breedingzone,' so i know there's plenty of crossover. i'd say more than half of those guys come out as bugchasers and want to chat about it.

i can't believe i'm the 7th most talkative person on here. i've never been so proud.

My thoughts on this are just like a program on your TV, there is an on and off switch, just dont log on to the parts you dont like, why limit what the rest are interested in. Sometimes I stray over into things that are not my cup of tea but am mature enough to read/heed or disregard if the post is not to my liking.

I may have the minority viewpoint, and if I do, I'll apologize immediately. My thoughts were that in the infancy the audience of bugshare.net was the audience you were trying to attract. My perceptions of that may have to do with many of us who read/posted on that site naturally migrated to this site, via word of mouth or otherwise.

And bugshare really was about, well, sharing HIV in all its various forms, either via stealth, carelessness, chasing, or chemical inducements.

So I may have come in to this site with one set of ideals that you didn't share, and it with the tacit acknowledgement that it was fine to discuss these topics--especially since you had the 'darkroom" section to separate chemsex and bugchasing. Now, I realize that when people come in to the site and hit the "New Posts" it shows all sections of the site. Personally, I look at the title headings, and for instance, when I see it is in bi-sexual or tranny heading, I'd probably skip over that section as it's not my bag.

A section of the discussions that crosses over from one topic to others that must be difficult for the moderators to handle would be the discussion of porn star suicides. This is a topic that covers self image issues, frequently chemical influences, and even possibly bug chasing/carelessness (porn star was at a safe sex studio, crossed over to bareback porn [see Josh Weston]).

So I see were you're coming from, and the work you do on the site is much appreciated, I just want to illustrate where this poster got his ideas about what the site was about.

I also remember during the demise of BNSkin, and many of us were lamenting the demise of their forums, you asked what that site offered that this one didn't? I might be mistaken by this memory, my brain isn't encyclopedic. But if that was asked by you or another moderator, that may have been where some of us got the impression that no holds barred discussion topics were acceptable, as they certainly were on bnskin.

RT, it is difficult to view this site from you and your mods point of view. So you might be getting a lot of flak from others that a form of restriction would solve. Clearly, you're considering this PITA (for you guys) change for a reason... Mind helping us understand the site owner and site moderator view?

I explained it a bit above. But the issue is that the "What's New" Activity Stream and the "New Posts" links, which a lot of people use, mix everything together. It's difficult for people who want to avoid it to avoid it. To some people it's a bit like walking down a street and seeing someone urinating in a doorway. They think "do I really need to see that right now?" and they go somewhere else. I want them to stay - while still providing a place to piss for the people who want to do that...

Saying you have to have so many posts before you see X, Y, Z, is one approach, but the problem is someone may be a great contributor and then get turned off... I want them to stay.

But from a moderator's perspective we're constantly getting people who are high coming on the site and doing stuff that requires our intervention. I don't have the desire or energy to herd cats like that.

But I've also heard from other people that the site is a bit too much about bug chasing. Even some comments here have been "oh, I thought that was the point of this site". No, that's the point of a couple sections of the site.

Good memory. Right after I launched this site Bug Share was going down in flames. Oddly the member email list was sitting on that site in one big beautiful file, so I sent out an email to everyone on the list inviting them here. It was the mailing list that was available at the time, but my intention was always to be more than Bug Share - much more - which is why backroom discussions have always been limited to the backroom.

But I think the important point is that the discussion will still be available. It just won't be as public.

if you're offended by some of the topics that get lumped in together in 'new posts' or 'what's new,' why use those links?

the option to skip them and go directly to the sections that interest you, and avoid the parts that don't, is there for each member to use without inconveniencing or offending anyone else. i don't understand how that can be a problem for anyone.

This scares me a little, as someone who recently came out as a bugchasher and has had to deal with lots of negative crap from people this was a safe place to talk.

I'd start with whoever is on BBRT. Then add anyone on A4A that has "anything goes" in their profile, etc. That's a huge crowd and I'd say most of them don't want to see bug chasing discussion - they just want to fuck and swap loads. If they do drugs it's sporadic - not a lifestyle.

I'm a little afraid this site has gotten too focused on bug chasing and chem sex. I want to provide a place for bug chasing discussion - I think that's really important. But honestly chem sex - never really liked that being around here. It has it's own section just because I didn't want it coming up in other parts of the site. And the chem sex crowd has NKPs they can go to as an alternative site. Honestly if I lost all the welfare-dependent meth addicts off the site it wouldn't bother me a bit. I don't want this site to be NKP.

Do you know Just Us Boys? I want the bareback version of that site... JUB is way more vanilla than this site will ever be just 'cause genuine barebacking is raunchy sex. But honestly I want a site that presents a mentally healthy approach to raw sex. Where guys can come to terms with the risk they're taking and then dive in with both feet and enjoy themselves and make the most of their sex lives without needing meth to do it.

Make sense?

Makes a lot of sense. Well stated. And well received.

That's like a drunk saying "hey, this is a free country - why can't I be all in your face and puke all over your shoes?" I want everyone to have a good experience here and be able to use all the various tools.

This scares me a little, as someone who recently came out as a bugchasher and has had to deal with lots of negative crap from people this was a safe place to talk.

It will be even safer since it will be less open to the general public who may find the whole notion rather shocking.

I was just IMing with HungLatinDom. He's been traveling the past two weeks and now on the site so much. He totally gets what I'm saying - spend a few weeks off this site in the real world and then come back to the site. This site isn't anywhere close to "normal" or "mainstream".

I'll let this discussion go on until sometime tomorrow mid-day then it will be over. I've pretty much made up my mind already. So far I haven't heard any compelling reason not to do what I'm planning.

I don't think you'll ever get any new customers. Curious people become serious, but that doesn't happen if they're asked to pull out their credit card too early... and blocking off access is too early. You will have a small customer base for a time, some will be dedicated, but then a new place will pop up and this site will eventually die.

Now, I could understand if you decided to develop a paid companion app, for example - that would make a lot of sense, and this content could pull a lot of customers into that app. I could also understand if you opened up a new "member's lounge" forum for supporters who are willing to pay. But cutting off access to popular existing sections of the site seem like something you would only risk doing after trying these.

The fact that the conversation is happening here is your biggest asset, but I think you need to be more creative in exploiting that, as there's always somewhere else people can go on the internet.

You do understand that I'm only talking about restricting maybe 5% of the site, right? Please go back and read the first message in the thread. Only a small part of the site will be restricted.

OK. That's the end of it. I'm done repeating myself. This discussion is over.
