deviant78 Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Hi there guys can anyone tell me how far apart the points in the ceiling for a sling should be? cheers
Guest JizzDumpWI Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 For mine, I have them 36" apart side to side and 78" end to end. I've tried other combos but for me, this seems to work the best. Google should help you to convert inches to centimeters.
deviant78 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 cheers fella that's helped a lot. appreciate it.
TigerMilner Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Now this is the kind of information exchange that makes this site work for me! Have a blast with your new sling man!
Administrators rawTOP Posted April 29, 2013 Administrators Report Posted April 29, 2013 How much does the ceiling height change things? I've got an area in my cellar I'd love to install a sling - there's a cool arched brick ceiling right in that area, but at it's highest point it's probably less than 7 feet high and then it slopes down from there. I've also wondered if the sloping would be a problem since the chains would be different lengths and it wouldn't swing quite uniformly...
deviant78 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 cheers fella dont worry about that, i intend to enjoy it to the max
bearbandit Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 When we put in a sling, years ago, we used 4"x4" wood as a frame, the advantage being that you can try different positions for the hooks.

But I would not change it much if at all for a 7' ceiling...
deviant78 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Report Posted April 29, 2013 it will change it to a certain degree, as long as the back chains are in equal length and the front chains are in equal length it will swing uniformly but if there all different lengths that might be a problem. we live in an attic with 20ft at the highest point and 7ft at lowest so back chains will have to be longer than front. you could try securing a level cross bar to the ceiling to hang chains from. a swing is always an option. good luck with the challenge though fella
Bear4Breeding Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Wouldn't the manufacture or the seller of the sling provide some installation instructions on how to hang the sling from a ceiling if your not using a sling stand?
Guest JizzDumpWI Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Hmmm, guess I should check "slings dot com".... LOL. At least with mine, it was left to do trial and error/success. For a time I had them splayed out on each side, but the movement is better with points just a little bit wider than the sling itself. As far as front to back points; for me it was really where the joists were.
straycowboy Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Hmmmm, sling, sounds like a good item for the old pantry room. Always wondered why did a 98 year old woman need a pantry as large as the dinning room anyway?
seaguy Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Just make sure it is properly anchored. I have heard stories of people bolting it to a plaster ceiling and then it gives way during use. That would suck.
