I live in Ft Laud, and yeah, from the NorthEast, it is the smartest place to head to. You just have to remember- if you want beach, the bars will be a 4 or 5 mile trip away. If you want to be near the bars and restaurants in the gay area, the beach will be a ways away. The public transit here is less than stellar- you should expect to burn an hour to get from point A to point B by bus. So really, there will need to be a rental car or a budget for cabs. Cool fronts can happen late December , but nothing compared to New York or Boston ! And if the weather goes to crap up in the north, where else is better to be stranded than sunny south Florida!
