I was raised Lutheran, went to private Lutheran schools K-12. It was the strict kind of Lutheranism that still thinks that being LGBTQ+ is a ticket to hell. Developing feelings for other males and acting on those feelings in high school was a mindfuck for me. Religion was never actually discussed at home. I guess it was assumed that my teachers and ministers would take care of that.  I want nothing to do with them again.

My late father's side of the family is Greek Orthodox and I was baptized that way as a baby. I don't worship, but go to the Greek festival every year because the food is fucking amazing. While I'm there I go to the temple and light the obligatory candle for my dad. Then I stuff my face.

My mom's side of the family is all over the place. Most of them don't go to church but believe in God and call themselves Christians. I have one crazy aunt who thinks everyone but her is going to hell because, according to her, everyone in our family is "of Sarah Palin."

We don't talk to her anymore.
