Guest Saturn1 Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 I have wondered a few things for awhile, now: 1.) Do guys who bareback in gay porn often or always bareback off camera? 2.) The guys in gay porn who always seem to fuck with a condom; do they bareback off camera? I just always found it hard to believe that those guys never bareback; know what I mean? 3.) Why do guys fuck with condoms in gay porn? After all, with all the testing of models that studios do; isn't it safer to bareback in gay porn than off camera? Sorry if my musings seen silly or that I appear to be naive but I really don't know much about the machinations of the gay porn industry.
Theo8 Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 I think using condoms have become more and more rare in porn. I think that's because of all the testing the studios do.
seaguy Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 From what I have read in interviews with porn stars and heard porn stars are like the rest of us they bareback off camera too but some are safe depends on the guy. As for why some choose condom porn for some it is because they get work from a condom only studio, some it is because they are not comfortable with the risk even with testing being there is a 2 month window and many porn stars escort on the side. I think PrEP is going to change that we have already seen Lucasentertainment go from condom only to bareback due to PrEP and a couple of the guys who have worked for them bareback have stated that they decided to do it due to PrEP. But there are still the holdouts Chi Chi LaRue, Raging Stallion, Falcon and those two studios are big because they also own AEBN, and just bought Hot House so since those studios are condom only some stars might be hesitant to do bareback because some studios have been known to not use models who have done bareback before though that seems to be going away as I have seen more guys who do both condom and bareback than in the past. Used to be doing bareback got you blacklisted with the non bareback studios which to me was wrong and discrimination. There also is not one standard for gay porn as far as testing. Not all test. I read that TIM serosorts and will test if requested by one of the scene partners. But otherwise there is no testing. There's also the militant anti bareback crowd like Michael Weinstein who runs the Aids Healthcare Foundation. He along with peoeple like him (many who love to troll porn blogs and post anti bareback porn comments) are behind the condoms required law that has or soon will pass in CA and he's also responsible for filing complaints against many of the big bareback studios alleging that they have put the models in harms way by shooting them having bareback sex. For studios making less and less money this tactic even if it isw ultimately unsucessful in getting the studio in trouble with the law costs them money in legal fees and time having to respond to the allegations. Is that how the AHF should be spending its money not in my opinion and how many people do they think they will prevent from getting HIV just by trying to make condoms mandatory in porn? Its not gonna stop people from watching the stuff already made and amateurs cant be forced to wear rubbers.
NLbear Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 This is a bit off-topic to Saturn1's question, but a more a question in relation to seaguy's reply. I am not really following what's happening in the world of gay porn in blogs etc. But with apparently new laws coming into effect in CA to ban BB is the expectation that major studios who do bareback porn now and are located in CA are preparing to relocate to a different state to avoid that law? If so, here would they go?
Theo8 Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 Nevada is mentioned as a possible site. I don't think the condom law has gone into effect yet.

If so, here would they go? Some of the condom studios have already moved production to Vegas (Falcon, Raging Stallion), Kink who does both condom and bb I believe said they will move production to Vegas if the bill becomes law. Have not heard anything about TIM or Factory two big BB studios in SFO and what they might do. SX Video in San Diego has not had any new stuff out in a couple of months which is a long time they usually have something new every month and I notice they are selling all thier titles 75% off so I wonder if SX might just be quitting the biz altogether? The other states that I know of would be New York, Florida, Colorado all have current bareback studios operating in them.
sinfuljock Posted August 1, 2014 Report Posted August 1, 2014 What studio is in Colorado? (my home state!)
sean_alan Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 Treasure Island Media does not test. Or they didn't up through last year.
nubajon Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I think that Bareback is the wave of the future. The stupid law here in LA outlawing bareback porn both gay and straight has killed the business here. It was a terrible mistake.
