Since I've got friends who produce porn, I'm obviously a little biased against the "file sharing" ("torrent") sites that offer full porn videos for free. I know first hand it takes a fair amount of work to produce porn, and it's a business - a business that brings a lot of people pleasure. And porn producers often don't make a lot of money producing porn. When you make their videos available for free to others it discourages little guys who create quality amateur porn from continuing in the business and all your left with are the big companies with big pockets - and even some of them are having problem (industry veteran Colt is in bankruptcy right now). All of that 'cause your too cheap to pay $20 or $30 a month to join a site that would give you sites access to hundreds of videos you could download legally...

Anyway, porn producers are a bit pissed and different ones are dealing with it in different ways. Titan is going after illegal tube sites - suing the owners for millions of dollars. But now Lucas Entertainment is going after the users of the torrent sites. They've filed suit against a bunch of John Doe uploaders. The suit will give them access to records which will let them figure out who the John Doe uploaders are, at which point they'll sue the guys probably for millions of dollars each.

The lawsuits are big money because the law lets the copyright holder get a big chunk of money for each download - even if the download didn't complete and the downloader didn't view the video. In other words, if you upload to a torrent site it could be cheaper to buy the DVD for each of the thousands of people who download what you upload. It could bankrupt you.

Like the record companies this could backfire because the biggest offenders are often the biggest fans - we'll have to see how it plays out. But next time you think of uploading to a torrent site - think twice... It's probably not worth it.

Just pay the $20-30/mo for a membership site. Enjoy it, and don't share...

Some of the gay torrent sites will not allow certain studios' releases to be posted until some time has passed for the release to actually sell and make it's production costs back and hopefully turn a profit. I a think this is a good idea. Not sure if the products are approaching the sites ownders or what but it sure beats the heavy handed and very unpopular suits against consumers thing like the RIAA has done.

I'm technically savvy enough that I could have been downloading porn (as well as other things) for years now. I personally have always chosen not to. It seems to me that if a movie is worth watching then it's worth paying for somehow. There are lots of other options if you object to the price of a porn DVD (and I almost never buy DVDs because of their cost).

If you want free porn, there's always xtube and similar sites. Sure, a lot of it's amateurish as well as amateur, but that can be part of the charm IMO. And there is some that's actually really decent quality stuff. Don't like the quality? Well you do get what you pay for.

You could also get someone to make a video of you having sex (or jacking off or whatever). I personally think amateur porn shot by a cameraman, especially one with a little practice, looks a lot better than one shot by a participant or from a tripod, but try that too. To be honest, I find watching myself in a video to be strangely erotic. You can also upload your vids and share them with others (see above).

If you have some good videos already but you're tired of them, how about trading with some of your fuck buds?

I hit the video stores for a while cruising for sex before I discovered just how inexpensive it is to rent a video. As long as you return it on time, the price is really low (they do put a hold on your card in case you end up not returning your rentals).

Or, like rawTOP says, most online porn places aren't that expensive given the sheer volume of stuff you get access too.

There's really no excuse for downloading stuff illegally, not when consider how much legitimately free porn there is, and how little stuff can legitimately cost with a little creative thinking.

A lot of the online porn places (tube sites) have content that is the same as downloading at home it is pirated/not authorized by the studio, thus the studio get's nothing from it airing on the site.

Now Titan is suing individual uploaders to torrent sites...

http://www.xbiz.com/news/124549

Personally I think Titan has gone too far in their lawsuits before and I don't promote them as a result. They're relentless in suing people and try to bankrupt the people they go after. Whatever you do - stay away from Titan videos if you're doing file sharing... Actually Titan uses condoms in their videos so you'd want to stay away anyway ;)

Still, I think we're seeing a shift and there will be a lot more lawsuits against uploaders in the future...

I purposely do not watch Titan videos because of their policies regarding actors who have barebacked and this is just another reason to boycott this studio.
