rawfuckr Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) I wonder if he seroconverted bottoming for a high viral load? Im primarly a top; but ive been really excited about going fully vers once im on prep; its still a mistery to me if tops are at the same risk as bottoms at this point. Not much of a mistery. When the bottom gets a load with tons o virus in it, the chances of the virus making into the blood through the tears of fucking is quite high. You get the load staying around your guts with tons of virus just waiting to find an entrance in you. Bottoming without ejaculation has far less risk, about the same as topping. BTW, guy was a bottom and (very likely) seroconverted from a load someone failing therapy on Stribild. Edited February 29, 2016 by rawfuckr
garsento Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 PrEP has been available off-label in Canada for some time. The main thing preventing wider adoption is that, save in Québec, no provincial drug plans will explicitly cover Truvada for PrEP purposes.
wood Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Im very confused regarding this case; they are saying the individual lives in Toronto, Canada, and was on PREP for 24 months; first of all PREP is not even approved in Canada for preventive use; how is it possible someone in Canada has been on PREP for 24 months? It would make more sense if it was an American case...? Many canadiens have found doctors who are prescribing Truvada as PrEP as off label treatment. This appears to be an incredibly rare case where the guy was infected with a strain of HIV resistant to both the drugs in Truvada....as the article states...among more than 9,200 participants in the clinical trials of PrEP, such a virus that was highly resistant to both components of Truvada was never seen. Seems incredibly rare....stick with PrEP and have fun Bingo. PrEP with Truvada is still incredibly effective. Its also important to note that even vaccines are almost never 100% effective. As a biomedical prevention method PrEP is still incredibly effective. This case was going to happen eventually. The fact that in 3+ years of PrEP usage we only see one documented case is a testimate to how effective PrEP is. 1
