Adding images to messages or profile

I think that you can only load pics that already exist in a gallery that you create. Once you create a gallery, you should then be able to add the pics to your messages (or to your posts).

To add pics on a personal message, you have to post them in a gallery and then attach them to the message. The sequence goes something like this:

  1. Create a new public album (use the "Create" pull-down at the top to create a new photo album)
  2. Upload your images into it
  3. Select the image you want to add to your message
  4. Copy the URL from the browser address bar
  5. Create the private message
  6. Position the cursor where you want the image inserted
  7. Click "Insert image from URL"
  8. Paste the URL in the box
  9. Click "insert into post"

Hey @viking8x6 - rather than starting a new thread, I'll ask here but if it should be separate let me know.

I understand the storage and size restrictions for photos on the site and as you already helped with, that videos were never and are not hostable here on the site.

So here are my questions:

  1. If I want to post photos elsewhere (some type of cloud storage), are their approaches that do/do not work?  I interpreted the "INSERT IMAGE FROM URL" under OTHER MEDIA ability to mean that if I had a secondary storage location (e.g. cloud) I could reference photos there if there were no security limitations.  So I tried uploading the photos to both OneDrive and DropBox, then created a "public link" to the photo.  In both cases, it didn't work to show the photo from the secondary location.  Is there a good way to store media elsewhere and what would you recommend?
  2. Same question for Videos - I uploaded videos to Bareback Bastards but the site sucks.  I'm not that worried about it but is there something that works better?

I've challenged myself post-divorce to get more pics/vids of my adventures so I like to incorporate them and frankly I like sharing - just figuring out how best to do it.

thanks for your help!

TBH I haven't got clear answers to those questions; I haven't played around with the system all that much myself.  The "INSERT IMAGE FROM URL" option works with images that are hosted in the galleries here, but one has to copy exactly the right version of that URL to get it to work - it's quite fussy.

Agree Bareback Bastards sucks, in that it's glacially slow and the software appears to be fairly antique. I think Thisvid is somewhat better. I don't believe you can embed things from either, although you can certainly post links (they won't be live, most live links are auto-edited to dead ones because of spam concerns).

Last time I checked the site would still do embedded links to videos on Xitter, though that obviously has its own concerns.

The one thing I would suggest for X/Twitter links: Please, please, PLEASE "drill down" to the specific post with the video you want to feature, and then use THAT URL; periodically someone posts a link on here to an entire X/Twitter timeline of postings, and the forum software dutifully includes post after post after post in an exceptionally long "single post" here.
