tallslenderguy
There are five stages to kidney disease before a person reaches failure and has to go on dialysis, and that is based on GFR. For instance, a GFR of 60-90 is considered stage one kidney disease and "mild." Apologies, this is Stage II, not stage one.

Usually a titre of 10 or greater is immune to HBV. And the kidney function issue, there may be greater benefit to PrEP than the risk of harm to your kidney. You'd have to discuss with a MD/NP to see about your specific situation though.

Well, for FYI - I've got chronic Hep B now because I hadn't even thought to get vaccinated during all the years I played (bipolar, not diagnosed so not on meds, therefore I didn't give a shit about anything or anyone). If the coming year of Tenofovir DF doesn't drop my HBV viral load to zero, allow the antibody to form and kill off the antigen then I'll have to take it everyday - the good news is that Tenofovir DF is half of PrEP, so I already told my Dr I'd prefer to just go on PrEP since it will provide the HepB treatment AND HIV prevention. - For anyone dealing with kidney or bone issues from Tenofovir DF there's good news on that front too. The new Tenofovir ( Tenofovir Alafenamide) does not cause kidney problems or bone density loss and is in final studies phase to replace Tenofovir DF in PrEP. My dose of TenDF is 300mg, the same as it is in PrEP so that's why I would be able to switch to PrEP, but the new TenA will be only 25mg for the same affect. The drugs are evolving and requiring lower dosages.
Guest
I was on truvada for 7 weeks and my eGFR went from 74 to 60 in just 7 weeks!!!! Of course I immediately got off Prep and within a month my eGFR is back up to 68. I found a great dr in SF that is giving me Descovy off label as Prep and so far so good !
